I've only had my notebook a year

I've only had my G72-251NR notebook for a year and my hard drive died. Is it still under warranty even if my warranty is up on my notebook? Can I send it in and have it fixed? I was told this is why I shouldnt buy hp, because of this issue. I do love my notebook but it cost just as much to replace hard drive as to buy a new notebook, Any suggestions?

Re: I've only had my notebook a year

A new hard disk is not very expensive and costs nowhere near what a notebook does.

Unfortunately, If your notebook is out of warranty then the hard disk is no longer a free replacement.

Purchase a 9.5mm 2.5in. SATA hard disk to replace the original with. It is not a requirement to use an OEM part.

Re: I've only had my notebook a year

Hi,

Unfortunately the Hard Drive will be covered under the same warranty period as your notebook, however it's a fairly straight forward process to replace the HDD yourself and is not too expensive - there is a brief guide on doing this below.

The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.

500Gb Hard Drive

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 50 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Regards,

Re: I've only had my notebook a year

How much is a 500gb hard drive? I did install a temporary hard drive but it is only 160gb. The repair guy made me feel dumb because i said I can install myself
