Is it possible to install backlight for the keyboard?

I just disassemble the keyboard, just like you say, there is no connector for the backlight. Any other source I could connect (touchpad, fingerprint reader) ?

I didn't respond because we're pretty much at a dead end here.

 I am not going to tell you how to tap a voltage on the MoBo to try and hook up the keyboard because it's too risky.

 You would have to use a volt meter to find the correct voltage (which I don't know what that is) while the laptop was on. One little slip and you would short out the board.

 Sorry... I know you don't want to use a USB light, but that seems the only viable option other then to purchase a laptop with a back-lit keyboard.

 If you want to google the problem I am sure there is someone out there that has figured it out.

You can't simply connect up the back lit keyboard cable to the finger print reader connector. It is not meant to go there, you would probably damage you system board.

 You need an external voltage to operate the LED lights in the keyboard. Some have tapped off one of the USB ports or even directly from the DC input jack where it plugs into the system board.

 With this method the keyboard will be lit all the time with no way to shut it off.

 This procedure requires you to use a volt meter to locate the correct voltage (what ever that may be) and soldering skills.

 There was a procedure to add a backlit keyboard to a dv8 from a HDX machine, but the sight where that was is gone. I have a PM in to another sight to see if that same procedure has been posted else where.

 At this point I am trying to discourage you from going any further with this as you could permanently damage your machine. I would sell yours and buy a new one with a backlit keyboard.

 I also have my doubts if that e-bay seller even has a backlit board even though he says he does.

I think if the connector fit, it can't damage the machine, because the light of the keyboard  uses a small voltage

It's not the keyboard I am worried about, it's your motherboard. If the internal resistances of the keyboard are different form the fingerprint reader board, then the MoBo may be damaged.

 Not only that the the keyboard is not the finger print reader, it may cause a short in the MoBo when plugged in.

 You may also have a problem routing the ribbon cable into position where the finger print cable plugs in. You may have to put an additional fold in it, that's assuming it will reach.

 I have strongly advised you not to go ahead with your plan, if you proceed and damage occurs, then I will not take responsibility.
