Can anyone tell me it there is a Firewire Port in a Pavilion dvd6-2112ea please?
If not then can anyone advise how or what too use to connect a Panasonic Video Camcorder that has a 4 Pin Firewire socket fitted to the HP Pavilion dv6-2112ea that will allow me to transfer Videos from the Camcorder to the Laptop using the HP Video Software program that is installed.
It's currently driving me nuts trying to find a solution to this!!!

Hi,
Many laptops now do NOT have firewire port therefore we have to use USB port. You can try this one:

Regards.

HI,
No there is no firewire port on the notebook.
Snce the notebook does have an expresscard slot, you can purchase and use an expresscard/ 54 or expresscard/34 to firewire adapter to accomplish the interface with your camera. Here are some examples at Amazon.com

As stated in the link, the adapter does not convert Firewire signals to USB so can only be used to use a USB bale with a converter at both ends. Still needs a firewire port on the laptop.

Usb to firewire adapters just do not work with video cameras, but an expresscard to firewire adapter will work because the firewire is integrated right into the pci-e bus....the firewire expresscard device is equvalent to having an native firewire port on the laptop.

I'm using an express card with my Pavilian dv2 series to get a firewire port. However the dv6 does not have an express card slot (strange but true).

erico said it had one. I think the disappearance of both firewire and expresscard slots from laptops in the last couple years is a sad development.

Yes it greatly reduces the flexibility of a laptop. I use the express card slot for a lot of extras that is not included and can't be accomadated via USB. They do have a lot of the commonly used ports already but the odd ones could be added via card slots.
