I keep my laptop scrupulously clean, but lately the shift keys are starting to get a bit sticky. I'd like to know if it's safe to pop them off for cleaning underneath with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol?

Safe is a relative term. Yes, if you are very careful the key can be removed and reattached but it can become a nightmare, too. I would try very hard to use a toothpick or something to clean under it without removing it.

Thanks. I tried to clean underneath it and the key popped off, I put it back on, but now it's much harder to press down than the other keys. Looks like I'll be replacing the keyboard.
I've worked on many desktops, but never a laptop before. After reading the service manual and looking online for parts, at least it looks like a relatively cheap and easy process.
