Hello,
Can someone please confirm that my Compaq Presario B1223TU which has an Intel T5250 CPU can be upgraded to the Intel T9500 (Penryn) 2.6 GHhz.
I have installed the latest 68MSU BIOS version F.0A on my computer already.
After checking the Compaq Support website for my computer here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa
In the Fix/Enhancement section it states: "Adds support for new Intel Processors".
What exactly are these new Intel Processors as it is not specified? This is BIOS version F.05 for 68MSU ROM.
I am assuming it means it supports the newer Penryn processors T9500,T9300,T8300 and T8100 but I am not sure.
I also found this retail website which says that it is supported as well for my particular laptop but it does not include the Intel T9500: http://www.ambry.com/page/modelnu/GS111PA/463050-0
Can some one please confirm that the T9500 is a possible upgrade for me. Thanks.
Regards,
Tze

List of supported processor are available in service & maintenance guide available on this link....http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01135530.pdf on page 1
But would like to caution, upgrading processor on notebook is risky, you need a skill person to do that...
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Thanks for your response. The Service Guide is of no use to me as it is outdated.
I would just like to verify if the T9500 is compatible since it seems from the other vendor that T9300 should be OK.
There is not enough information in the BIOS version F.05 of 68MSU ROM to answer my question. Again the Service Guide is USELESS as it is not up to date. The guide was reeased before the new Penryn CPU came to market.
Can you please confirm. Thanks. again.

which chipset does you model have
if it is one of these, Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset, Mobile Intel® GME965 Express Chipset, Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset and can support a fsb speed of 800 mhz
comparing the cpus on inteli have found some differences that might prevent the use of the t9500
the fsb speed is higher on the t9500 and the cpu lithography is 45nm on the t9500 as opposed to 65nm on the t5250
the bios may be to support the new 45 nm cpus but i cannot confirm
look very closely at your hardware setup search for compatible products and adventerous people like us ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-component
you should be able to upgrade but might not be to the t9500
i have a presario c500 upgraded from celeron m 520 to core duo t2400 1.85ghz
i did a lot of camparison of specs on intel as well
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=33918 t9500
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=30786 t5250
if you have the i943\940gml chipset, or the 945 gm chipset it may run the core 2 duo T5300 1.73Ghz as at least 1 person claims to have running in a Acer Aspire 3680-2633
although the i943\940gml doesnt officialy support any thing other than celerons
cpuz is great for finding out exactly what hardware makesyour computer you can get it free from http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
post some info on mainboard type, and the chipset on you machine, and i might be able to find out more possible cpu upgrades for you

Thanks for helping me out burning_the_chip. Believe me I have researched this subject extensively already if you follow my trail of investigation into this issue. According to cpuz ver 1.55 I have the chipset Intel GM965 Rev. C0 on my motherboard.
FYI, the Intel GM965 chipset supports up to 800 Mhz FSB so no issue there even though my existing setup is 667 Mhz for the T5250.
If you check the followin link: http://www.ambry.com/page/modelnu/GS111PA/463050-0
you will see that my laptop model supports the Intel T9300 2.4 GHz CPU which has the exact same specs (FSB, TDP, 45nm, Socket P) as the Intel T9500 2.6 GHz except for the clock speed but this T9500 is not listed as being supported.
I would just like the experts to confirm that my laptop can support the T9500 CPU. It supposedly supports the T9300.
Can someone please confirm the support for the Intel T9500 processor? Thanks.

yes i saw
the only issue that might be in using the t9500 is that the PLL-IC (clock generator) doesnt run 13
but it should
according to intel the t9500 runs on that chipset
heres the cpu support list from intel for the 965gm

Thanks for helping me ot burnin_the_chip. I think I just found the answer.
Supposedly the T9300 and T9500 are exactly the same chip but with a different Bus/Core ratio (multiplier). The base Bus Frequency is 200 MHz. The T9300 uses a 12.5 multiplier to achieve 2.5 GHz while the T9500 uses a 13 multiplier to achieve 2.6 GHz.
I am sure everything else on the chip is the same except for this multiplier so the chip should be OK to use on my system.
