Laptop memory boards [ Edited ]

This is not a problem but rather a complaint regarding a specific HP Laptop. Bought a G70 250US some time ago,

and it has worked fine. What I did just find out, is that the 2 memory modules installed are not only from different

suppliers, but are also rated at different speeds. The 2Gb module is rated 400Mhz/PC2 6400 and the 1Gb board

at 333Mhz/Pc2 5300. I suspect the system will run at the lower speed; maybe some one can verify this for me.

If this is an Hp cost saving thing I think they should state it as such. Maybe other laptops are also built this way;

This CPU works at 800MHz. Your memory modules should be at least PC2-6400 (800MHz). PC2-5300 works at 667MHz and makes the system slower..

It seems to be with the "Compaq" Series for the most part.  Winstron (the motherboard maker) had my first Compaq CQ60 when it went for repair multiple times.

There were multiple hardware issues but one of the issues was just that, the memory modules.  What I was told is that HP has "mistakenly" placed the two different speeds in the systems, (umm, okay) and that the Winstron board (3612) has had "known issues" with the 6400.  My system supported Dual Channel memory so in order for them to function at the full potential, they had to be identical sets, this meant that they had to be purchased and installed in pairs, not one at at time and certainly not different speeds.

Though they are backwards compatible this doesn't mean they can be installed together.

They did end up shipping me another new system to replace that one but now I have a G60 series (still in the Compaq family) and the same thing is occuring with multiple hardware issues.  The memory modules, the Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter and the harddrive isn't reading/writing as it should.  It too has been to repair one time and came back with nothing fixed.  The system was not restored and it seems that if they had actually replaced what they said (the memory modules, motherboard chips, and the Pentium Processor) that it would require a recovery to factory defaults.

It came back with the time/date all screwed up and I wasn't able t access the basic programs for my work.  The battery was removed also because of a memory dump.

My opinion is the same with the financial reason.  Maybe the economy has put such a strain on them that old parts are having to be utilized and these don't work well with Win 7.

HP, what am I to do?  This is my only tool needed for my work.   A consumer and loyal customer shouldn't have to endure such stress.  I think I will ask for my money back so I can buy a trouble free system.
