While using my hp pavilion the other night the screen went black. I booted it a number of times since but the screen has not changed , would like to know if any other users have experienced this, would appreciate any advise on how to correct the problem

The same thing happened here!! compaq presario F500 notebook pc not even a year old yet, shut down as usual when i was done using it, the next time I booted up no picture just a black screen it seems as if it is very dim i just barely make out a few things. Dont know what it could be there is no external switch to turn it off or on manually and I tried pressing the fn and f8 simultaniously to try and brighten.

It might be the backlight inverter board that has failed. Shine a very strong light on the screen and see if you can make out any images when it seems to have finished booting.

hi guys,
one quick troubleshooting before concluding it is a hardware failure
-please follow these step
-remove all cable, device to your notebook including battery and power cord
-press and hold the power button for about 45 sec.
*reason > discharging the electrostatic energy stock inside the capasitors of motherboard
*static enery affect the normal behavior of computers and all other device using electricity
-put back battery and power cord
-try to power on your NB
-if no good > hardware failure
-hope that one will work
