Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Hi CNF serial numbers are normal for 99% of the pavilion range, its a factory they are built in.

Can you pass me any details on your DV6000 that you had / are experiencing the issue with such as:

Service Desk Ticket number

Serial Number

Product Number

Please PM me the SD number in order to retain privacy.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks,

TS: {personal information removed} was the first repair with HP, the second was sent to best buy repair center.

I have to fax the information over to a case manager on Monday to have the repair honored by HP, this is a scary game!

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Oh I forgot the information about my issues, well the first time there was no symptoms... it just zapped out! no response, called HP did the troubleshootings and nothing so they fixed it. The second time the wireless was going in and out and then finally nothing at all, then my USB ports stop working and I had best buy fix it in FEB of 09' while under the enhancement warranty period because I was not informed properly by HP, they have all my info because you have to verify it when you call... so Best Buy sent it to their repair center not to HP to be fixed and my laptop was still under the warranty until May of 09' but when my mother board burned for the third time I called HP and they said... "Well, yes it's a faulty mother board and it's known that it has these issues but you didn't have it repaired during the "Enhancement" period and now you have to pay for the repair", I was upset! I called a second time with the same response you have to pay, but what was funny is the first agent said, "$279" and the second said, "$389". I am just trying to get my laptop fixed especially if the mother board is no good and its known to be a problem, it's not fair to put a "enhancement" and not a recall, but it's not right to the paying customer, I am not going to pay $1500 bucks for a paper weight.

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Any information Mike? that's all the information I have but I think my case manager is in Canada, but she knows my story and issues and we came to a conclusion that I have to show proof of repair by best buy and she will send the box to have it picked up, she was respectful and so was I, but there is allot of customers out there that are in the same situtation.

I'm now having the same issue. The laptop (Pavilion DV67000 series (DV6707US)) powers on for a second, the fan whirs and the lights flash, and then it powers off, then back on and repeats over and over.

I've just removed the CMOS battery and am letting it sit for awhile. I'll try to reboot it then to see if it makes a difference.

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

After removing the batteries for a while, my laptop now works intermittently.  I switch on and let it go through cycles of reboot and then suddenly it might turn on. Several times, it does not.  When it starts working and if I idle it for a while, it may again stop working.  I cannot rely on it for anything. I have a lenovo laptop which is of almost of the same age and works just fine. From the discussions it is clear that there is some thing wrong with the manufacturing of these machines and I was wondering why HP does not replace these defective machines?

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Well, I left the CMOS battery (and the main battery) out of the laptop for around 45 minutes, then replaced the CMOS battery, leaving the main battery out... plugged it into the AC adapter and tried to power it up. Exact same problem. :smileysad:

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

From all these posts, it is clear that it is all these machines are having systematic failure which may be attributed to bad design of the hardware/software and I am also sure that this problem might have been known to the people associated with manufacturing of these machines. But in order to get the production, possibly they all kept their mouth shut and let these machines to be passed on to the public.

It is a shame that nobody from HP stood up and atleast tell us the cause of this problem.

Mine is going back to HP for repair under extended warranty covered by my credti card and as per HP it will cost around $ 400 . But for sure my next laptop will NOT be HP.
