Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

I own a HP 530 Laptop and does this on off routine ONLY if the power cable is plugged in.

When the laptop is running off the battery pack only, the LED Power light flashes 8 times (continuously) until the Laptop turns off.

When the laptop is running from the Power cable, with or without the battery installed the LED flashes 6 times and then turns off and on repeatedly.

Number of Blinks or Beeps Location of Blinking LEDs Component Error Condition Continuous Blinking battery power LED Battery The AC adapter is attached and the battery is charging, but does not yet have sufficient charge to power the notebook. 1 Caps Lock/Num Lock CPU CPU not functional 2 Caps Lock/Num Lock BIOS BIOS corruption failure 3 Caps Lock/Num Lock Memory Module error not functional 4 Caps Lock/Num Lock Graphics Graphics controller not functional 5 Caps Lock/Num Lock System board General system board failure 6 Caps Lock/Num Lock BIOS BIOS authentication failure Continuous Blinking power adapter LED Power adapter Insufficient power

So according to the table found at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01732674 it is due to insufficient power.....

Try see what your LED's are displaying.........

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

I've got a HP Pavillion DV6116eu, with similar problems as mentioned. Now i have had no bad experience with this machine as I was happily using it for almost 3 years. Last week as I was on it the screen suddenly turned blank, so i just restarted it then. It kept on rebooting ater 5 seconds with the screen never turning on. Contacted HP today by email and they emailed me back promptly with a set of possible solutions which I tried with no success.

I read about this Service Inhancement Program and I checked that my laptop p/n was listed but how do i get them to fix it?Baring in mind my machine is out of warranty.

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Could you please post the possible solutions which HP emailed you.

Maybe this can help others....

Im pretty sure this whole senario is due to the battery pack and/or AC charger malfunctioning.

Did any of you check the LED's to see if they are displaying a fault by the amount of flashes?

I've had this problem going on and off for the past six months or so, and just a couple of days ago it finally gave out entirely, and none of HPs "help" works. And there is no way I'm paying $400 to fixa computer that costed less brand new.

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Well try the LED check like i wrote before.

I figured from what my LED's were trying to display, i have a battery pack or charger problem.

So i ordered both, they should be arriving today, and i will report back..

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

I installed the new HD and everything seems to be working OK for now. Still bummed that the Seagate only lasted 15 easy months, replaced it with a 320g Western Digital.

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

Well i ordered a new battery and charger for my HP530 Notebook.

Plugged in the charger, charged the battery till the LED displayed Green, pushed the power button, and nothing.......

On off...........On off...........On off.............. On Off.............On Off..........

I really thought i had this figured out as the LED displays that the battery has insufficient power because it flashes 6 times Orange.

Re: Laptop turns on off on off on off--wont stop!!

I have a HP dv6119us bought from circuit city in dec 2006.

problems:

  • black screen (nothing)
  • recylces on-off: blue lights light up, fans run, cd drive reads; then it restarts incessantly

attempted solutions:

  • contacted HP. my laptop qualifies for the warranty extension, but even with that extension, the warranty is still defunct as of february of this year. the rep didnt help at all.
  • removing battery, unplugging power cord, holding  power button down for +30 seconds. nothing.
  • on motherboard unplugged battery on chipset (i figured it was the black nickel sized battery with a tiny white plug into the board). when i turned it on, it showed a tiled screen of "press F10 to enter setup" with black background and white letters, but it would not do anything after that.

*Wild Card*

Literally. My credit card AMEX extends the warranty for 1 year! since the extended warranty was until february, im still covered! the AMEX rep Laura was incredible - super patient, very clear, calm, and even polite. All I gotta do is send in the manuf. warranty (print out), the AMEX billing statement charge when i bought my laptop - dec 2006 (i had to call AMEX to send it to me; since it was so long ago when i bought it I dont have it), and the repair estimate (getting an estimate from a local authorized repair shop). That's it. the whole process should take 1 month. Laura was wonderful.

I recommend everyone call their credit card company if they cant do their own fix. AMEX  rox!
