Maximum Supported Memory

I have a Pavilion dv6t-2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook, original Product Number NQ615AV.  Originally it said it only supported up to 8GB RAM, but this page (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00820047&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_u...) reads as though that is no longer the case.

Did the new BIOS update remove the limitation on RAM?  How do I find out what the current maximum is?

Thanks

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

On a laptop you are not going to find modules any bigger than 4 gigabytes each so for all practical purposes 8 gigs of RAM is the maximum you can install. I cannot imagine any software you could run or task you can do that would ever need more than 8 gigs of RAM on a laptop.

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

I'm a SharePoint developer running virtual machines - I need all the RAM I can get.

I assumed there would be a couple 8GB sticks available by now, but you're right, they just don't make them - nuts.

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

Good luck finding 4GB memory modules! I been looking everywhere for them and found nothing. If you can find them please let me know where. The only modules I been finding is 2GB modules. Even try staples they don't carry them. I just got tired of looking for them. I use my desktop if I need something that an hog on memory. I supposed if you would find them they would be expensive! But 4GB of memory I have installed on my laptop is efficient!

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

I think you will find most new laptops come with 4GB ram already installed. I think 8GB is maximum for the dv6. You can end up spending $90 to $100 on memory modules.

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

Hi,

The article you linked referred to the Windows operating system RAM specs.  64 bit versions of windows can hold any amount of RAM you install (there actually is a limit, but it's so large no one will reach it).  The hardware itself, however, can only support a certain amount of RAM.

I also have the dv6t-2000 and I have 8 gigs of RAM.  I find it's more memory than I need, but it's always nice to have :smileyhappy:

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

[ Edited ]

early versions of the dv6000 max at 2 gigs and later ones max at 4. Any laptop DDR2 memory sold at Best Buy, Frys, etc of clock speed PC2/5300 or PC2/6400 will work in any DV6000 laptop. The dv6t-xxxx is a different, newer machine and some of them use ddr3 memory I believe.

Re: Maximum Supported Memory

Hello there,

I am trying to upgrade the RAM on my DV 6 CTO 2000 Quad Core edition. The OS is Windows 7 x64. This thread was opened last year when the 8GB laptop modules were not mainstream.

Now that we have 16 GB Laptop memory in the market 2 * 8 GB; what is the maximum memory that is supported by the motherboard. Please let me know.

Thanks

Vik
