I am also facing the same issue. I purchased dv2500t CTO in Sept 07. What is the remedy of this problem?

I just got off the phone with HP and they want $398 to fix my dv2500 laptop with a dead graphics card. It is 43 days out of warranty and because there is no service alert, they won't fix it for free. Their online technician even said it was a known issue, but HP won't stand behind their product. I will make sure never to buy another HP product and i will tell as many people as I can that their support and products are worthless.

Guys,

 

Have a look at this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us , its another thread with lots of people with the same/very similar problems (myself included).  The Nvidia GPU built into certain laptops is a known weakness and as such HP have been forced to extend their warranty on certain models and P/Ns.  Do a little research from here and hopefully you will find your P/N is covered by this extended warranty. 

 

As a point of caution - when searching for the P/N make sure you are in the correct "country" on the website.  Each area has different P/Ns and different lists of models are shown depending on which country you select.

Once again I thought I had found the solution, but of course it did not pull through. I checked the website the previous poster submitted and the supported PC's go from dv20xx dv21xx dv22xx dv23xx dv24xx.... and thats it. Mine is a dv2600 and is not supported even though it shows all of the symptoms listed for this series.  Great.

The only thing I can suggest is to do what you can to keep it cool.  Sorry if thats been said already.  The issue is becoming something of a personal vendetta for me,  I've written to Steve Gill the MD of HPUK in an attempt to get him or his cronies to do something about my problem.  His address can be found on page 19 of the link above if thats any help?  Unfortunately, having read far too much about this problem it seems it will get progressively worse untill it fails completely, if it hasn't already.  Maybe you could try appealing to Nvidia's better nature?  I'm almost certain its thier GPU which causes the problem, its fairly well documented.

Hi  I have display problem also.  My laptop started started shutting down and restarting automatically over the last few weeks.  But now nothing displays on the screen.  I can see the screen is powered when I reboot...lights are up and I see the hard disk being accessed.  Earlier I had installed additional memory.  so I removed the memory and went back to old configuration.   But the display problem persists.  How do I check if it is problem with the video card?  Thanks for your help.

Exactly the same problem with mine!  Only a couple of months outside warranty.   HP told me to replace the hard drive, so I spent £90 doing that, and it now has the same display as yours.  HP don't want to know.

I've had the same problem with my hp pavilion dv2500. This has happened to me twice now, once when the laptop was within warranty. there must be someone we can complain to

Ive had exactly the same, and even directed HP complaints to this forum. The still say they have not had enough complaints about the model to justify extending the warrenty.

 

We could collate our letters together and send them off as one to the MD, who my first letter went to - surely they cannot claim their isn't enough complaints then?

 

Would everyone be up for snail mailing their letters to me then I could send them all as one bundle?
