I just wanted to give you an update on my problem, which may be of interest to some people. I finally decided to send my dv2500 (with nVidia and Intel chips) back to HP for repair. Although it's out of HP warranty, it’s still covered by my credit company’s extended warranty program. It costs about $400 for the repair. What’s interesting is that, when I got it back and looked at the work they did, the entire LCD panel was replaced, the not mother board as I would have expected. The computer seems to work fine so far. So for those who has the similar problem as mine (see my previous posts for the symptom), you may want to look into the LCD panel.

ok where do i start this problem story that is older than the sea. i bought this nice looking laptop last year in 2008 apr. ok i worked alright for a month and there were problems one after another. i have managed to fix all of them but there is this last thing if i can fix in it is the booting problem. to give u some background, i have done system recovery (factory setting) twice, once because of virus, second was trying to fix problems and it kept getting worse. the current problem now is that it works fine it vista is running but if i try to restart it it tries to start in windows starting screen and then blue screen flicks and it restarts again in system recovery module. in system recovery module it doesnt really find any errors though and then restarts and 50% chances are that it might boot normally and start vista or go in step 1 of trying to start windows and blue screen and back to system recovery module. now, many if you were to think that this could be a vista problem, i dont think so because it was kind of same after system recover however not right away, there must be some sort of software which is being updated through somehow microsoft or hp which cause this problem. now, there are some people saying on this blog that this could be a nvidia video card problem, no the model i have is smaller and it has no nvidia only intel so i dont think its that. one thing is common is the heating problem and sudden shut downs which have reduced once the fan side area below is not smothered, it needs air and its normal. one more possibility is the bios, it could be that i have to go back to an old bios and it might not have this problem. to outrule that my vista home which came with it is crappy, i have now downloaded and installed the new windows vista 7, and i have noticed that the heating problem has disappeared but the booting problem still exist. now even though i have a newer version of vista, i am still not convinced that there is something hardware wise wrong, because if that was the case it would never start, it has to be some software issue, but i will still try to go to second last old bios and still if this last problem is out the door. i got this baby for 850euros in ireland and its nice once its working, and i hate it when it doesnt start like. hp should have a separate blog for each of their models and should watch it to see where the users are having problems.

I have a similar problem with my HP dv2503tx laptop which is 1.5 yrs old. Just recently my laptop started to go crazy after almost an hour use and now everytime I turned on my laptop you will see multiple mirrored display on screen which makes it unusable.
Ive had multiple problems with HP laptops it started with Intermitent WebCam, Battery Failure, Audio problem and now Display problem which makes it unusable now. This HP laptop just gives me problems even from the start. Im just blinded before with its design thats why I bought this laptop but I regret buying this laptop because its a garbage. Thats why right now I will not recommend any HP computers with our clients and the company I worked with.
