My DV2000 laptop's CD/DVD drive is not physically ejecting.

Hello, I got this laptop last summer and it has been pretty problemless until the other day I went to go burn a CD and it decided it would not eject open for me. I had a friend look at it and he said that when he went into My Computer he noticed that Windows was not even detecting a drive, and also when he went to look at the device manager. I am operating on Windows Vista.
Any help or advice is appreciated!

2 possibilities: 1) dead drive; or, 2) Windows registry issues. To exclude 1., just try to boot from any bootable disk like the restore disk you should have made when the laptop was new or any old XP disk you might have around there. Just boot then turn off...do not let the disks do anything to the hard drive. As to 2, the most common thing is an issue with something called upper and lower registry filters. Here are instructions on how to do the registry edit to try to fix that issue:
