Re: My HP Pavilion dv9730us --- I lost my CD-ROM (burner) drive....

[ Edited ]

Before you mess with the software any more I would try booting from the drive. Get a Windows install disk or some other bootable cd disk and try starting the computer from it. I think f9 as you power on gives the boot menu. Again, if you can boot from the drive it is OK mechanically, at least as to the type of disk you can boot from. Sometimes the drive can show up in the BIOS and still be bad if the laser has gone out for example. The BIOS can still see a drive there and there is a motor and it can spin but without a working laser it cannot see anything. The DVD laser can be good and the CD laser bad, too so it is only partially crippled.

Hi,

Thanks.  Unfortunately, after uninstalling these and re-booting every time, there is still no drive to be seen.  Dang!

Re: My HP Pavilion dv9730us --- I lost my CD-ROM (burner) drive....

You know, I've spent hours trying to get my drive back at this point and I think it's time to give up.

My computer is not 3 yrs old and so far I've had to replace the hard drive and now the CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced.  I call this computer a LEMON and the computer purchase a mistake.  It's full of problems (heating up, etc...).

Anyway, thanks for trying to help me.
