My laptop turns on and after a few seconds, it has a flickering white line on the top left...

It lets me go into the system recovery, I scanned it, I tried returning it to factory default I tried recovering it, and nothing! I even tried taking out the battery and holding the power button on it for 45 seconds... Nothing! I have ubuntu the latest version I think and I have windows 7 on it. One day it just shutdown while plugged in and without warning. My laptop did this TWICE in just a day. It was working perfectly with no problems and it just shut off one day without a warning which is just outrageous! My laptop I bought for christmas almost 4 months ago I think. My parents bought it actually. An almost 500$ laptop to waste. It had intel core i3 processor and I think it was an HP 2000 but when my parents bought it they weren't able to find out exactly. I could really use some help with this I'll show pictures of it if you need me to.

Yes we are going to need to know exactly what laptop it is. There should be a sticker on the bottom or inside the battery bay giving the model number. Without that, yes a picture would help. What exactly does it do now when you try to turn it on? Is it not under warranty?

As you can see here, all it shows is a white line and it continuously flickers on and off. The rest of the screen is completely black.



And here It allows me to pause the startup (before the flickering small line) and gives me a few options.

and about the warranty, I'm not sure if it was added but my guess is that it might since I only bought it 4 months ago and I think warranties in HP last a year.

I am thinking maybe bad hard drive....what happens if you tap F10 to get into setup? See if you can run the hard drive test. If the hard drive fails the test then HP would fix it under warranty

It is something more serious and you are going to need to send it in under warranty.
