My supermulti blu-ray cd/dvd drive will not play or burn dvds...only says no disc found...HELP?

I cannot play dvds or cds on my supermulti blu-ray dvd drive.  hp mediasmart player says no disc found.....an hp support assistant troubleshoot found nothing wrong with the drive and several searches for drivers says that no updates are necessary in that area either.......i'm not sure what to do now.....
