PLEASE Help!! :) I can *NOT* burn a single DVD ... tried everything! [ Edited ]

I bought BOTH Nero 9 AND Roxio 11. With Nero, I get a "driver reset" error. Sometimes when it's 4% done, sometimes when it's 30-40% done. With roxio I just get a burn error. Is there a possibility my firmware isn't updated or something, or that I need to enable some sort of advanced option on the menus? It's becoming REALLY frustrating! - Thanks everyone.  It's a HP DV4-1125

Pick one or the other, not both. Do a system recovery back to factory condition for Vista with the F11 key. Try a simple data DVD burn with the native Vista DVD burner. If that works install only Roxio or Nero (I use Nero personally but others may differ). 2 burning programs is an invitation to problems.

I never had both on my system at once.  I started with nero, got a bunch of errors each time I tried, uninstalled it, then installed roxio.

Is there a way to know if I have the latest firmware for the DVD drive???

I don't see anything for the dvd-drive, w/ regard to burning.

go to your device manager.  press the start button on bottom left of screen > right click on computer > select properties > select Device Manager on top left > look under DVD/CD-ROM drives. uninstall any drivers you have listed there.  Then restart your computer.  It should reinstall the default drivers automatically.  If it doesn't, go back to the Device Manager, right click on your computer name.  Select scan for hardware changes this will force the computer to reinstall the default drivers. 

I had the same problem with my DV4.  I used imgbrn and it was giving me driver errors.  I followed the above process and have had no problems burning DVDs since.

I followed that.  Uninstalled the dvd drivers, re-booted computer, drivers were found.  I re-installed Nero 9, added some video files from nero express.  After gettign 2% done, I got an error.  Here is the full message. On my screen, it says "drive not read" after it burns for a bit, and then it fails right after that.
