Pavilion DV6-1131ea 0x124 BlueScreen Crash

[ Edited ]
Machine:
HP Laptop dv6-1131ea
OS:
Windows Vista Home Premium x64 ( Factory Default )
Specs:
AMD Turion x2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-75 [2.20 GHz] [x64 bit]
4GB Ram [2 GB x 2] [2 slots]
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 Series
160GB Samsung HN-M160MBB ATA Hard Drive
Error Message:
Blue Screen ***STOP 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFFA8004E72038, 0x00000000B6000000, 0x0000000000000181)

Description:

I have been getting this Blue Screen for the last frustrating 4 months, and I've tried everything to fix it:

  • I've swapped RAM locations
  • Bought a new hard disk (my previous one gave me a hard disk test fail, though apparently it wasn't the problem)
  • Paid for internal fan cleaning ... and although my laptop heats up MUCH less, it still crashes
  • Formatted it 3 times:
  • Once with new drivers
  • A second time without installing any other applications (vanilla install)
  • A third time removing my hard disk partitioning, installing drivers manually (not from windows update) and not installing any other software applications

So I am led to believe that the problem is hardware related.
The time it takes for the laptop to crash to this Blue Screen is completely random. Sometimes the laptop only lasts 5 minutes, sometimes it takes an hour before it crashes.
Of course, after my final format, when it crashed with only IE and paint open, I started to install some software, and noticed that the time it takes to crash is related to CPU load:
Large applications like FL Studio, Skype and others tend to lead to the crash in less than 2 minutes. Other programs like TeamViewer, which (i think) uses up a lot of bandwidth, lead to a crash in less than 10 minutes.
While only browsing the web doesn't cause a crash in at least an hour.

Please ... I'm desperate !!
What could be the cause of this error ?
I've taken the laptop to MANY computer technicians and experts, all who claim they can fix it, when they infact don't.
Can no one fix my laptop ?
Any help is greatly appreciated :smileyhappy:

Re: Pavilion DV6-1131ea 0x124 BlueScreen Crash

Hi,

Try removing 1 Ram Module completely, put it to one side and see if you still get this issue.  If you do, move the same Module to the other slot and test again.  If the issue still occurs, remove the Module and repeat the above procedure with just the other Module installed.  Does any of these configurations result in the notebook running without error?  If it does, which configurations work?

Regards,

Re: Pavilion DV6-1131ea 0x124 BlueScreen Crash

Thanks for the quick reply David.

But I had already tried that, and it resulted that both RAM Modules and slots are perfectly functional.

I will however try it again, including a memory test, and post back the results.

Re: Pavilion DV6-1131ea 0x124 BlueScreen Crash

Hi,

As an additional test, as you mention that heat had been an issue previously, try running a stress test on the GPU with FurMark - a good tutorial including the download link for FurMark can be found Here.

Re: Pavilion DV6-1131ea 0x124 BlueScreen Crash

Ok, so I attempted the test and the laptop did not crash.

So i guess that puts the graphics card out of the question

Re: Pavilion DV6-1131ea 0x124 BlueScreen Crash

I have a cooler actually, though i doubt it's any good. Laptop still overheats sometimes.

Strange thing is it crashes even if not overheated.

My main assumption would be that the motherboard is defective :/

In which case it would not be worth fixing due to costs.

Might as well start saving up for a new computer ...
