Pavilion G4 / Ubuntu / Kubuntu / System Temperature / Error 90D

Hello,

This is my second Pavilion G4.

Whenever I install a version of (k)Ubuntu, and that I shutdown the system properly, on the next reboot I am shown the error message that the system had a System Temperature issue - Error 90D.

I kept a Windows partition, and I do not have the issue after a Windows Shutdown.

After a few Error 90D, the system will not start on Linux !!

Any Idea?

It appears that the fan is always on under Windows 7 but Ubuntu the fan is not always on.

I thought that the fan was controlled by the BIOS, but apparently, the system we install on the HP is controlling the Fan !!

Any explanation or driver to install ??

Kubuntu is the worst Xbuntu linux ever. KDE is not a reliable desktop environment and I do not recommend anything with KDE. Ubuntu is also less stable than 2 years ago and many users switch to Debian or linux Mint. Install linux Mint instead of Kubuntu, it should work out of the box..

The frozen Linux came from the adapter of a wireless mouse !!!

I tried the latest version of

Kubuntu 32 & Kubuntu 64bit

Ubuntu 32 & Ubuntu 64bit

Debian 32

Linux Mint 32

But the Error 90D, is still an issue after each shutdown of a Linux partition.

I suppose that the HP does not like one of the sequence of shutdown of Linux !

I brought the Notebook at the HP Customer Care in Hong Kong.

After talking for about an hour, I finally got to talk to the manager who told me regarding my problem with Linux and the 90D Bios error : This is not our responsability.

In front of such non-professionalism, I took my Notebook and left the premises.

Is there anyone here who could help?

Hi,

I have just noticed an E90B error on Windows (this forum) and it should be related to a BIOS/CPU Fan issue. I guess that there is a buggy BIOS or a faulty fan which is the manufacturer responsibility..

My notebook spent 2 weeks at HP Care Center and they could not find a hardware problem ...

But I have big doubt on their aptitude to find a solution to a problem or finding a problem.

Why ?

After 2 weeks they told me that they could not update the bios because they did not have the password to my Windows partition. Apparently they never got the idea of using a spare Hard Disk to boot up my notebook and update the Bios.

Hopefully someone from HP will read these and find a solution to their Bios problem with mainly any Linux distro.

I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora, Sabayon, Debian and they all have the same issue with the Bios of my HP Notebook

I see it's an old thread but no one says it's a overheating problem.

The supposed error 90d you may read as 90 degrees Celsius which is the max temperature this notebook can afford and to prevent damage shuts down, thermal shutdown.

I have seen this message many times a day and now my G42 is at HP. I hope I don't get it back but a replacement.
