Pavilion dv2000, 3 beep codes: 1 long followed by 2 shorts

I have a notebook computer, model HP Pavilion dv2000, which has been refusing to start and it would give 3 clear beeps, one long followed by two short ones. The screen stays black, only the buttons of the quickplay board are lighten up. I would like to know what is the problem and how can I fix it.
