I have a HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC and I just bought a new battery about two weeks ago. My laptop is at least two years old and it took me about six months to get a new battery for my laptop. Within that time I’ve been using my laptop on my AC Adapter only with no problems. Now that I have a new battery I noticed that my laptop is having difficulty charging. It’ll charge the battery but only if the AC is in a certain position and nothing ‘bumps’ into it. Six months ago I took my laptop to my college to check out the life of the AC and my college said it was perfectly fine. I haven’t done another checkup yet, but I’m wondering what could be causing this problem. The battery’s brand new, and this problem’s just started after I started using a battery on my laptop. I think my AC is about a year old, too.
If I take the battery out and the laptop’s only running on the AC it won’t work unless again, it’s in a certain position. And again, this battery is brand new, and before it would charge perfectly fine. Could my AC Adapter be dying or am I having another hardware issue?
Because this is the only problem I’ve had.

My Dv4000 having same problem, Power jack issue probably. Started right after the warranty. Hp wants to replace Motherboard at your cost about 400.00.
If not check on Ebay I seen some listing for 70.00 to fix . Not sure how good of a permenant fix is that

I’m hoping it’s not the motherboard. It took me six months to get a new battery simply because I couldn’t afford one at the time. ._.

Unlike some other notebooks, the power jack on a dv2500 isn't soldered onto the board. It slides into a holder and has a cable on it that plugs into the motherboard. It's a lot easier to fix but you still have to disassemble the laptop to get to it. And you don't have to buy a new motherboard.

So judging from that response, I’m assuming it’s just the jack? If so, I could probably take it to my college again to see if they can fix it. Or take a look at it, for that matter.

If you haven't tried it with another ac adapter, I would try to see if I could borrow one and try that first. If it still does the same thing, then I would say it's the power jack on the board. I don't know your whole model number but the link is for the service and maintenance manual for a 2500. It'll show the procedure for taking it apart and fixing it. Being that you have to jiggle the jack around, I would say it's a bad jack. The link I posted in the previous post is for the usb board. I only showed you that so you could see how the jack was in there. You only have to buy the jack with the cable, not the usb board.

My college uses HP desktops and laptops so chances are they’ll probably be able to determine if it’s the jack or not with one of their batteries. I’d rather take it to them for them to look at it instead of disassembling it myself as I’m not skilled in hardware repair. XD; So here’s hoping that if they take a look at it they’ll just say it’s the jack, and it doesn’t look too expensive to replace. 8D It’s the –only- thing I’m having problems with in regards to my computer, considering I *think* the motherboard is fine. Usually that problem’ll display if it freezes while charging (at least in my experience), which it’s not.
Thanks!

It's good that you have people to look at it. Good luck.

I have 2 dv2500's at my house at the moment with the same issue. I've replaced the DC jack in both of them. Neither of them will charge still. It's an ongoing issue with a number of HP DV laptops. The only real "fix" seems to be replacing the motherboard. That being said, I've read too often that it's only a temporary fix for it, as the replacement motherboards eventually do the same thing after it runs it's course.
