Pavilion dv5-1017 will not power on

I have a dv5-1017 that is barely 3 years old and will not power on and there was no warning.  I have tried turning it on with just the AC adaptor and nothing.  The only light that is on is the white AC power light near where the power cord is plugged in.  I don't know where to begin troubleshooting -- any assistance/ideas will be greatly appreciated.
