Pavilion dv6636 stuck in a restart looping with no boot

Hi,

I have got a Pavilion dv6636 purchased on Oct / 2007 that has experienced a restart looping with no boot. Pressing the start button, I can see the top cover leds on, power led on (as well as the AC adapter port blue illuminated around), HD led being illuminated just one time and can hear the DVD driver being powered and fan spinning, then, after approx 10 sec (while screen is still black), it shuts down, stays off for 5 sec, then restarts, getting stuck in this looping. Experiments that I have already done:
- hard reset
- memory reset
- memory slots testing
- memories swapped
- got it started with memories off (sounded a beep as expected)
- got it started with HD off (continued with the same symptoms)
- F8 or F2 keys pressed while starting (black screen and continued with the same symptoms)
- F10 key pressed while starting (by pressing F10, it does not shut down as usually does, but stays died, with black screen and fan spinning)
- external monitor plugged in while starting (black screen and continued with the same symptoms)

Same issue occurred approx 4 months ago but, at that time, after a week switched off I tried to start it up and was successful. Not at this time.

Please, any thoughts of what could be wrong?

Thanks

Re: Pavilion dv6636 stuck in a restart looping with no boot

by some slim chance did you update BIOS....if not maybe the system hiccuped......see if you can set the BIOS back to defaults by doing the following

1. Turned off the computer

2. Removed Battery and disconnected power cord.

3. Waited, pensively, for 5-10 minutes

4. Plugged the power cord back in but DO NOT reinsert the battery

5. Holding down the Insert/Scroll button, hold the power button down for 20-30 seconds, release the power button. still hold the Insert/Scroll button pressed the computer shoul come up and Windows should  boot.

6. Restart hit ESC  it should open the BIOS and reset to default. restart computer should come back.

good luck

Re: Pavilion dv6636 stuck in a restart looping with no boot

Hello Kodi,

  sounded pretty good!

I was successfull and my notebook is normally functioning after defaulting the BIOS by doing the steps you suggested.

Now I have updated the BIOS by the F32 version (current releasing) and is successfully running.

Very good.  Thanks pretty much.

I tried your post using the INSERT/SCROLL and the battery removal stuff.  No joy.  Any other ideas????
