Re: Pavilion dv6700 won't start

@bdelana

I am not an HP employee, simply a top contributing member here hence the avatar. A repair of the Nvidia gpu chip ,a reflow or reball of the pins solves the issue. The chip eventually loses contact with the motherboard due to solder breakdown, from the intense heat generated by these machines paired with less than optimal cooling design perhaps. Is this defect the sole responsibity of HP? Not really, maybe the cooling design could have been better...but the motherboards are built for HP and the defect in Nvidia chip is due to some bad choices by Nvidia as far a solder type. Do a Google search for "Nvidia solder failure" to get an idea.

Re: Pavilion dv6700 won't start

Add me to the list. Mine gave out three days ago. I can not believe HP is not recalling this machines!!! It is not just a few complains, they really should do something. I'm a student and my laptop is vital for me, at the moment I can't afford a new one ( by the way If I ever get a new one it won't be HP!!!) and fixing this one sounds expensive. HP step up!

Re: Pavilion dv6700 won't start

I have owned numerous HP/Compaq laptops and desktops as well as worked on numerous other HP/Compaq personal and business desktops and laptops for friends and business clients. The thing that they all had in common is that each one failed catastrophically with a hardware error that ended up being common for their particular line of product. In every case, the failures either weren't covered by warranty due to loopholes in the wording of the warranty or they happened shortly after the warranty expired.

Not only is this very frustrating on both a personal and professional level but I also find it very unprofessional of any company to knowingly put out products with hardware defects and then refuse to accept responsibility for their actions.

I will never, ever, under any circumstances purchase another HP or Compaq product, nor will I ever recommend their equipment to any of my clients. There are too many alternatives to justify spending money on bad equipment. I, for one, vote with my money.

Re: Pavilion dv6700 won't start

I have the same problem.  This morning it was working fine.  Seem to have a need for a few internet drivers, then BAM! it shut off and won't turn back on.  I tried the same things everyone else did.

confirm power plug, removed battery, checked keyboard.. and everything seems to be in place.  so, reading this forum, i see it is happening to many HP users with this model.  HUMMM, not like this model was CHEAP when purchased.

anyway, any luck on your end America...

Re: Pavilion dv6700 won't start

I am absolutely enraged with HP right now. I paid over 800$ for my dv6700 (6707us) and its doing the same thing. The cd-rom with flash for a second and the led lights flicker when I put the battery in, but that's all it will do. There has got to be a better answer than "sorry" for this problem. I'm in the anti-HP club now and will make sure that none of my friends or enemies for that matter, ever buy one if this is the customer support I can expect!

Re: Pavilion dv6700 won't start

I had a similar problem with my DV7: I doesn't come on at all. It started by shutting down automatically; when I turn it back on, the little power light will come on briefly and nothing happens. Now, even that power light doesn't come on anymore. I did the power reset to no avail. My options are very limited because the machine doesn't come on in order for me to try anything else. Needless to say that my warrantee has expired, HP won't do anything for me
Any help will be appreciated.
