I have the same problem too. The worse thing is that the white letters have darkened and a damp cloth doesn't bring the whote back. I'm afraid to use a strong solution for fear that the letters itself might disappear...Any solutions from HP so far?

I did get a response from HP that I wasn't thrilled with. Here it is:
Dear William,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
I apologize for your inconvenience as a result of this situation.
From your E-mail, I understand that you are unable to read the keys on your HP notebook under the high contrast light.
William, I have gone through the database and I would like to inform that there is no such replacement keyboard for your notebook model. However, in order to resolve the issue you can purchase the keyboard stickers and stick them on the keyboard keys.
You can purchase the keyboard stickers from any computer stores in your region. For your convenience, I am providing the third party website for your reference
Hi contrast light? Hell, a 20 watt light bulb overhead washes out the keys! LOL I haven't gotten the stickers yet but I guess that's the answer. For what I paid for this thing they should replace the keys. I wonder how long the stickers will last.

If you are still under factory warrenty contact HP TOTAL CARE and inform them that you wish to have the notebook serviced to have the keyboard replaced with a different finish because you are having difficulty reading the keys with the current supplied keyboard and see what happens
I currently work on behalf of HP for numerous support departments. The opinions expressed above are the personal opinions of myself, not of HP. There is no guarantee that the opinions expressed are 100% correct.

Hi - I ended up going to my hometown computer supply store and purchasing a set of stickers made by LatKey (white on black) that I peeled and stuck over my otherwise useless keys. I'll bet you can find them online, too. That was about a year ago and they are still stuck on and they do the job. HP has since smartened up and you'll notice that their keyboards are now white on black.
