Pavillion A430N NTLDR is missing.

We had a McAfee rep take control of our computer last night to try and install the security program since it would not work for you.  He managed to screw up the computer and now it will not boot and says NTLDR is missing.  We do have the recovery disks but am wondering do we have to do a complete recovery or can we repair it.  Not sure how to do repair though.  Will we loose everything on the hard drive?  My husband called HP and the lady told him it was a hardware issue.  She also said there was a way you could save the info on the hard drive before you recovered it. Is that possible?  How? I am able to find three files which say NTLDR on our other computer.  Is there any way we could copy these and tranfer?  Any help anyone could give me would be most appreciated as I really need to salvage some of the stuff on the old hard drive.  Thank you very much.
