Re: Plugged in, not charging

I would recommend that you first update the BIOS and then perform a hard reset.  You can find the BIOS update under Support and Drivers by typing in your product number or notebook model number.

To Perform A Hard Reset

  • Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)
  • Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
  • Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
  • Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
  • Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

Re: Plugged in, not charging

yes, i just did the hard reset and let my computer charge a bit. now that i've opened my computer again, it still says "plugged in, not charging". the battery icon says charging but the battery still drains even though the ac adapter is plugged in. what are my options now? i think its ether the battery of my computer or the ac adapter. :smileysad:

Re: Plugged in, not charging

I would suggest opening the HP Support Assistant and going to the diagnostic section to run the HP Battery Check. It will test the battery and tell us whether or not the battery is in good condition.

Re: Plugged in, not charging

the bettery is okay. now i can narrow it down to just the ac adapter, sometimes but not always the laptop refuses to charge when the ac adapter is connected. when it does charge its only for a few seconds or minutes and then it doesnt charge anymore. what i think is its the ac adapter, how can i check if it is the problem? i already checked the physical status of the ac adapter and it doesnt have any broken wires or cracks. please help me. I've been trying to get help for this problem for a month now. i just need advise on what to do before i go trying to fix the problem. :smileysad:
