Hi,
It happend like four times in this week: When I'm working with my laptop and it's plugged-in and not moving it around or even touching cables, suddenly the laptop looses it's power and goes into battery mode. I tried moving the power cable to see if there is a problem with it but found none. Sometimes I have to plug out and plug in the power cord into the laptop, sometimes I have to plug out the adapter and put it in another power source.
Strange thing for me is why it suddenly looses the power.
What can I do?
Regards.
p.s. I'm a software engineer, so I know what I'm doing.

All I can suggest is to try another AC adapter you know is good, see if it does the same thing.

Thank you for your reply but I'm afraid I don't have access to another AC adapter.
How can I make sure the problem is with the AC adapter and not with the laptop, so I can get another adapter safely?

Strange thing is, if you leave it on by AC adapter, it gets charging and then it stops charging and if you don't touch any of the cables or any hardware, after a while it get's to charge again and stops and so on.

Did you ever determine what the issue was with your laptop? Was it the power adapter? I'm having the very same issue as you describe.

Looking this Q. up, HP forum responses, Nobody has asked this question so, who knows IF HP will help resolve the issue or try hiding it under the rug like the expiring ink catridges.
.........................
Anyway, as of yesterday, I noticed the screen on my laptop started going in/out of "Battery Mode". The laptop has NOT been getting moved around, unplgged, etc.
This morning, I tried a diferent outlet, unplugging the power cord from the adapter, and laptop, then, plugging back in.
.................
Same as others, inquiring about the same problem, guess we may all be forced to go buy a new HP 65 watt power adapter - for $60. or $70.
Hopefully, these power adapters do not have hidden; built-in expiration dates. I found no Date-of-Manufacture on mine but, the letters below the UPC code lines are, CT: WBGSVOACXZDBMD
...............
Anybody figure out, "The Answer", please, let the rest of us know ASAP !!!

Oh, by the way, on my laptop, in the list of programs, HP installed a Power manager on 6/13/12. I just uninstalled it and the "on/off batter mode" problem has NOT gone away.

I just came from Best Buy that had the HP 90 watt power adapter on sale down from $79.99 to $59.99 as of Sunday. The clerk working in the laptop accessories area told me she was fimiliar with this power adapter issue, agreeing with me that it may have been designed like HP's ink cartridges, to stop working after some time.
.........................
IF I was sure other manufacturers were NOT designing their equipment to break down/stop working, like HP does with their ink cartridges, I would stop buying HP products altogether. However, once I get used to one maker, I just use them forever, even with problems because I believe every manufacturer has a bunch of problems unique to their brand.
....................
Once you are fimiliar with those types of problems, you decide whether you want to deal with them or change brands and deal with new/unexpected headaches every time you turn around.
...................
For now, I must be happy, I found out HP claims the "tip" on the end of their 65W power adapter is yellow. This tip plugs into the laptop. HP says, the tip on the end of the 90W adapter is black. The tip on the end of the 65W adapter HP included with the G72-B66US laptop I bought from Staples has a black tip - so, I now know why, HP included the 65W adapter when they were supposed to include the 90W.
.....................
We all live and learn. HP might consider facing the problems they cause their consumers head-on. Admit "you" made a mistake, offer to correct it at no cost to consumers [restoring customer & investor confidence] and move forward. I take it like a slap in the face whenever HP screws up and tries to ignore, deny, or hide their mistakes.
lol.
.......................
According to HP, their laptop, model G72-B66US is supposed to have a HP 90 watt # NW199AA#ABA power adapter. At Best Buy, this is a # KG298AA#ABA or SKU # 8881695

I ended up purchasing a new HP power adapter from Amazon. It was $23 shipped, but it was the 65w version. (It matches the HP part # of the original part) It does, however, get VERY hot when running the laptop off of wall power.
