Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

Here is the issue. I turn on the laptop and the screen stays completely black. The lights do come on however I hear nothing in the laptop running (i.e fans etc.)

I have not tested on an external monitor yet but will shortly.

I assume the problem is the mobo and I'll need to replace it. Does anyone have any helpful advice.

Re: Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

There are known issues with that model, call HP and cite the following article:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lan...

If your issues are one of the symptoms listed, they should service it for free.

Cheers,

Re: Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

You can try this (it worked for me): While the laptop is OFF, unplug from power source, remove the battery, plug into power source (without the battery in the machine) and start as usual, but cross your fingers. Mine started with no problems. The turn off, unplug and replace battery and try to start it again. Hope that helps.

Re: Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

Those symptoms are classic to a failing motherboard. If the unit is under warranty, contact HP Support.

Re: Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

[ Edited ]

I have the exact same problem; I have had nothing but problems with this laptop. Sent it back twice when it was in warranty. Always ran very hot.  Wireless didn't "ever" want to work correctly - had to eventually buy a usb wireless dongle for 10 dollars to get my wireless access back.

It is out of warranty, three years old, and I assume a paper weight. ( Before I ever buy another HP product, they will have to give me a free laptop.) I will not buy any HP gear in the future. I went out of my way, practically had to beg to buy this laptop from HP, and it has been total junk. I would have been better off to buy a $ 500 dollar laptop from Office depot. I bought directly from HP, and the quality has been terrible. I wish I had bought a Macbook. <text deleted>

Re: Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

I still can't believe I lost all the money I Spent on my Laptop HP Pavillion "Entertainment" DV9225, I can't understand how did HP offer a free repair "Which they already did once on my Laptop" on a know defect, and "fixed" putting another defective part which they already know will fail in a short time.

I already talk to an HP Rep, and let him now how frustated I was on this issue, the worst part is that I know the HP rep. is unable to fix my laptop, it can't replace it, or do anything to help me, the only option he can give me was to contact a local HP repair center where they can fix it and CHARGE me for the service, which will be quite expensive, and yes, they will be putting a defective part.

As I told the HP rep, I might be better buying anything but HP, and actually I might spend less than the HP repair cost, buying another laptop from any other brand.

Re: Problem with HP dv9000 notebook

For this Symtum ,

'Shut down -> Take a Battery Out -> plug Direct without Battery'

it happen to me also, but finally i find out the problem is come from

'Failiar of Power Adapter that can not sent enough power to Battery'

and to run a mother board' , I found it after it completely dead and

change a Power Adapter'

Then after i still have a reboot problem also.

My gut feeling is straight to RAM - Memory, I have 2 GB in my DV9000

I decide to Take it out one.

Then it work very well.

Take you.
