Hi all,
I recently made a fresh Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installation on my 8710w.
After installing the latest drivers available: HP Quick Launch Buttons v.6.50.12.1 (sp46731.exe) when I press any of the buttons, the corresponding light turns on for less than a second, turn off and nothing happens. The wireless button does not even light on.
I reinstalled the driver and still nothing.
Quickluanch buttons worked perfect with the previous Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS.
Does anybody know anything about this issue?
I already googled without success, there are mentions to other models of laptops and drivers that suposedly do not correspond to the 8710w.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi:
The only advise I can offer is to uninstall that version and use the oldest W7 version available on your notebook's support and driver page.
Also, if you have not done so already, install the chipset driver first and reboot.

Hello Paul,
Thanks a lot for your quick answer. I tried uninstalling the latest driver, rebooting and installing the previous available version: HP Quick Launch Buttons v.6.50.7.1 (sp45889.exe) having the same problem.
I was previously concerned about that chipset driver, since there is no chipset driver available for download on the official HP 8710w Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit page I did not install any and supposed the Windows 7 would include the most appropriatwe drivers for the chipset.
Please let me know if I am wrong on this. I'l download the driver from the link you provided and try it anyway.
Thanks again.

You're very welcome. Sorry that didn't work.
I would install the chiset driver because maybe that has some motherboard driver that will help those buttons work.
If not, then I don't have any other ideas you can try.

If useful to anybody:
I tried one final thing which was to "hide" de TPM Embedded Security Device Availavility from the BIOS, also Disabled the "Vista Direct App Launch"
After the modifications to BIOS described above I re-installed Windows 7.
Now the Quick Launch Buttons are working without any problem.
i do not really now what was wrong, but the issue has been solved.
Regards.
