QuickPlay malfunctioning on Pavilion dv7-1030!

Hello to everyone.

I recently bought a Pavilion dv7-1030ev and soon enough I realized that the QuickPlay application and QuickPlay buttons don't work together very effectively. Specifically, the application crashes frequently (not sure if it's due to the buttons), the ALT+TAB is not working at all and the playlist cannot be controled when QuickPlay is minimized. The weird thing is that the buttons work fine for Windows Media Player, even if it's minimized to the task bar.

Has anyone come across these problems with QuickPlay? Did you find any solution?

The sad thing is that I have been talking to HP techs for almost a month and they have proposed every possible solution, from full system recovery, to BIOS update and reinstallation of drivers, with no success. Even worse is the fact that all 7 HP agents I have contacted, eventually proposed that I have the notebook replaced. I did this twice already and of course, the 3rd notebook has the exact same symptoms, since it is -obviously- a software problem and not hardware.

Please, share your experience-thoughts with either dv7 series or dv5 series notebooks (I believe they all use the same QuickPlay software) related to  this problem.

Thanks a lot.

Actions I have been proposed and applied so far:
1. Full System Recovery
2. Uninstall and reinstall QuickTouch, QuickPlay buttons and keyboard drivers
3. Update Windows online
4. Update QuickPlay application
5. Update BIOS

What else? I think these were the actions I tried to both the replaced machines with no success. The outrageous thing is that all HP agents tried (and succeeded until yesterday) to convince me that it is a hardware problem! Until now, I have no official response by HP about the malfunction of their QuickPlay software. If I don't have any news by today, maybe I will return it and ask for a refund... unless someone in here proposes a decent solution!

Re: QuickPlay malfunctioning on Pavilion dv7-1030!

just wondering, how did you perform a complete recovery? by accessing f11 or recovery manager? if yes,

-try to reinstall the operating system using a Recovery Disc, by doing that the registry files of Operating system will be corrected because the

-quickplay is bundle w/ vista

-it must work

Thanks asterizz.

I have used the HP Recovery Manager>Advanced options>System recovery which is supposed to recover to the factory settings. That was what I have been proposed by HP support. Do you mean to tell me that you have the dv7-1030 and the ALT+TAB works fine, you don't have any "not responding" messages and you can control the QuickPlay app from the Windows desktop when it is minimized?!?!? I will be very puzzled if you can do all these, because I am conviced that these are flaws of the QuickPlay software, no matter the hardware or model it is running on.

Thanks again for your time and concern. (Note: By the way, as far as I know, QuickPlay is the HP Media Player and has nothing to do with Vista)

Any one else with these kind of problems on their dv7 series notebook?

Re: QuickPlay malfunctioning on Pavilion dv7-1030!

hi,

i dont have dv-7 but my friend has one, i'll go and check it.., i will let you know if it is working in good shape. :smileyhappy:

-by the way, what i mean bundled w/ vista is bundled w/ system. :smileyhappy:

-i'm thinking it must be something w/ the registry because, registry is the mother of operating system and compilation of files for vista,

and responsiple for all commands. :smileyhappy:

Thanks again asteriz. I will be waiting for your response. You can please try to:

1) Do ALT+TAB from inside the QuickPlay application, to change to another app

2) Control the playlist with the QuickPlay buttons, after minimizing the QuickPlay application

Of course, any kind of crashing/freezing should be reported :smileyhappy:

Thanks.

Re: QuickPlay malfunctioning on Pavilion dv7-1030!

Eventually, I had some "serious" feedback by the Greek HP Customer Support Center. After complaining quite intensively, they took the matter seriously and had a thorough look at it (I guess). So they called me a week ago and proposed for a refund, since there is indeed an issue with QuickPlay software, and they don't know when the updated drivers will be issued. So, just to 'reward my trust to HP' (that's what the CS manager said), they proposed to give me my money back, should I decide to return the notebook.

The bottomline is that I had to return 2 notebooks back and spent a month calling and chatting with HP technical support agents in order for them to find out a simple software bug, that shouldn't have skipped their R&D department at the first place, before releasing the notebooks in the market. No further comments!

Just a notice to everyone who owns a new HP notebook with the HP QuickPlay program, will most probably come across the aforementioned problem. Be aware that it's just a driver problem and don't allow them to make you replace the notebook!!!
