I have a HP Pavilion Notebook model DV6-1044ca with blu-ray drive. Less than a year old. On the weekend, when putting in a DVD to play I got a message from HP that an updated software version was available and would I like to install it. I clicked on YES and it went through the process of downloading and installing it. Now the drive won't play BluRay disks at all ... although the drive does play regular DVD movies, files, etc. but all on Windows Media Player -- not QuickPlay as it won't come up.
I called HP service -- got someone in Indonesia who was completely useless -- didn't even know how to hook into my computer so he could see what I had on it. Tried dozens of changes, with restarts, and wasted 3 hours whereupon he wanted me to format the drive and start from scratch again. I told him everything else on the computer was working fine ... I just couldn't get QuickPlay to work. In addition, I didn't want to reinstall the dozens of software programs I already had on my computer...not the least having to save all files, etc. to an external drive.
QuickPlay shows in my computer software list ... but when I try to uninstall it, it says there's no program to uninstall....yet when I try to install the program it tells me to uninstall it first! Geez. And I end up with a BD drive that won't play BluRay disks...and no QuickPlay program. All this because I agreed that HP could install an upgrade a program that was working just fine before.
Any suggestions?
