RAM memory in Elitebook 8560w

I was thinking of upgrading the RAM in my Elitebook 8650w. I know the type of memory I need (DDR3 PC-10600 1333 Mhz) but I was wondering how many strips are build in already?

I got the quad core version so my laptop has 4 slots, from which 2 are under the keyboard and I dont want to take the laptop apart. My laptop has 4 GB of RAM this moment.

My question is, are there 2 strips of 2GB DDR3 RAM already installed or just 1 strip of 4 GB? Or is this something varying from factory to factory?

Re: RAM memory in Elitebook 8560w

Hi:

If you post the product code for your notebook, I might be able to tell from the specs for that specific configuration.

I have read many posts that folks cannot seem to figure out how to remove the keyboard in that model--even after following all the instructions in the service manual.

Re: RAM memory in Elitebook 8560w

Hey Paul,

The product code is XX058AV.

The configuration is:

Intel Core i7 2.0 Ghz Quadcore

4GB DDR3 RAM, PC-10600

500 GB HDD

Nvidia Quadro 1000M

I only need to know if the RAM is placed as 1 strip or as 2 strips :smileyhappy:

Thnx

Re: RAM memory in Elitebook 8560w

Hi:

When I input your product code, and I click on the HP configurator, it shows the notebook comes standard with one 4 GB chip.

Hp Support Assistant will tell you exactly what you have and where, just open up the assistant and go to General Specifications, read down to system memory, slots.

Yes, DDotDacherDash has a very good point to use the Support Assistant.

Bur if you are like me, and you uninstalled all unnecessary software, you can also run the free Crucial memory scanner that will scan your PC and report the same info without installing any software.

Re: RAM memory in Elitebook 8560w

ow one quick last question.

When upgrading my RAM, should I fill the 2nd slot under the keyboard first? Or can I just use the 1st slot of the ones on the other side? That side has far more easier access

Re: RAM memory in Elitebook 8560w

Hi:

I copied and pasted this from the service manual, link below:  Look at chapter 4, pages 50 & 51.

"A computer having a system board with spare part number 652638-001 or 656214-002 has four

memory slots. On these computers, in both the expansion memory slots (on the bottom of the

computer) and the primary memory slots (under the keyboard), slot 1 must be populated before slot 2

is populated."

As I said, EVERYONE is having a great deal of difficulty removing the keyboard on that model. Folks are posting this problem in the HP Business Forum too.

Read this post--last one has the answer.  Apparently you have to use more force than you think is reasonable, to pop the keyboard out.  You follow the instructions and they are correct. There are no secret screws or clips holding it down.
