Re: SSD and HHD use

The combination of the SSD and standard hard drive act as one.  You are getting a compromise of the performance of the SSD and the size and price of the normal drive.  It is meant to be an attempt at the best of both worlds. The SSD is acting as a super size cache which speed up overall performance vs. just a normal 500 gig drive.

Re: SSD and HHD use

I have an Envy 14 with the same deal. The performance is really amazing. Actually, HP gave me the Envy 14 to evaluate I do not own it. It is an i5. My own personal laptop is an i7 with a 512gb SSD. The Envy 14 seems faster particularly with bootup and opening of programs. The bad part is it is very hard to fresh install an OS. The combination of the 32 gig mssd drive and the regular hard drive is a RAID array and trying to install WIndows 7 comes up with a message that there is no hard drive because the driver for the RAID is not present. I am not sure what you would want to do with the 32 gig drive, anyway. I think you are gaining a ton of performance just to give up a paltry 32 gigs of storage.

Re: SSD and HHD use

I would be willing to sacrifice and evaluate a notebook for HP.

Re: SSD and HHD use

As Huffer has said, you will need recovery disks and you will have to first download the Raid driver for you notebook. During the install I believe it will ask you to press a function key in order to load a 3rd party driver.  You have to be paying attention and hit that key.  It will ask you for the source of the drive and I believe you can have it on a CD or a flash drive. The flash drive is better because you don't have to remove your recover disks. After the raid driver is loaded I think everything should be recognized and run smoothly. I did assume a lot from your request so please tell me what your actual problem is.

No this is what you need to do. You cannot try to load a RAID driver during OS installation. Follow these steps instead.
