Is either of the windows 7 a copy of HP's windows 7 or are they OEM versions?

Huffer, that was a nice explanation you found there! I had to give you a kudo for that one!

You are installing Windows 7 on the larger drive and you formatted the smaller (mssd) drive, right? Are you letting Windows 7 install create the 100 meg system partition? OK, I see you already answered this. May be stupid but why 2 install of Windows 7? What can you do with one and not the other? The 32 gig mssd drive is too small for Windows 7. If you want another installation of Win7 shrink the primary C: partiton and create a new one of at least 60 and preferably 100 gigs. It must be installed with a different license, also. You will get a dual boot menu where you can pick which version of Windows 7 to boot into. This is not considered a good idea, but it will (should) work. Leave the 32 gig drive alone and reinstall Intel Rapid Storage and reactivate the mssd as an acceleration drive after you are all done.

Re: SSD and HHD use

I am going to confess ignorance and inexperience here. I have never tried to dual boot 2 instances of the same OS on the same computer. I have read somewhere that Windows 7 is particularly finicky about having 2 installs on the same hard drive because of that 100 meg system system partition Windows 7 wants to install.

Re: SSD and HHD use

im good with windows 7, i always use 7 instants of windows 7 in 2 diff drivers. first time i am stuck with this problem. it is not about 2nd windows, im afraid that error will occur whenever i will try to install windows 7. so if my orignal install windows 7 fails to start, then how can i reinstall?

1 thing i never tell u that in this laptop there is 100 meg system partion, normally i dont allow that partion. what is differnce that 100meg can make ?

what happens if i just deleet that 100meg partition?

and another v imp thing. as u suggested, i disable acceleration and format mssd drive, than HDD was came available during installation, but if ever my windows fail to start and it was using mssd as cache drive , how i will install windows? how HDD camwe available when i am unable to disable acceleration ?

Re: SSD and HHD use

The 100 meg partition holds boot and system files. If you delete it no boot. As I understand the Intel Rapid Storage thing, the acceleration drive does not actually hold files. The software bonds it to the main hard drive in RAID and it gets used as a data cache. You can disconnect it and the laptop will still boot because all the software is on the big drive; everything will just be slower.

i am unable to install windows yet. my question in last post was

If my existing windows fails to boot, and SSD was being used as cache drive, then How Can i install fresh windows, because hard disk is undetectable until ssd is removed from acceleration. Help file of intel rapid start technologly  , say user can disable acceleration if windos is unable to boot. they write that it can be done with ROM user interface

But im unable to boot into ROM user interface (as mentioned in help file, i should be able to boot into ROM user interface for raid)

Re: SSD and HHD use

Yes for most computers the ROM (BIOS) is where you set up RAID but not on these. Nothing in the BIOS. I get your question, though. If acceleration is enabled and then Windows does not start you cannot disconnect the mssd drive in softwear. What you would have to do in such a case is physically remove the mssd drive.

Re: SSD and HHD use

got it

when i remove ssd,it shows a configuration page on boot. frm there i remove ssd from acceleration and pc boot normally.

when i reinstall ssd , that configuration page again appear on boot with option to use ssd as cache etc

that is good. it is solution to my query

can i use that configuration setting without removing ssd ? because it is not easy to open laptop rear cover and remove ssd every time installing fresh windows
