Searching for Error Codes (lights)

My HP G61-511WM laptop will not boot. Absolutely nothing shows on the screen. The power light comes on and stays on. The wireless indicator comes on yellow and stays on solid. 

 

There are two LEDs that blink in unison - one is the Caps LOCK indicator, and the other is in the speaker bar above the keyboard just to the left of the AltecLansing Label. These lights have a pattern of two long binks, followed by a pause. That pattern keeps repeating. The Touchpad indicator light also stays on.

 

I suspect that the blinking lights serve as an error code, but I cannot find anything about them. Although there is nothing on the screen, the system is trying to run at some level as it shortly begins expelling heat from the vents.

 

I am hesitant to dismantltle the system without some better idea of where the problem may be. Any help in diagnosing this would be appreciated.
