Can a second hard drive be added to the dv7-7047cl ?
(It's standard drive is one 1Tb HDD ).
If yes, how?
Thank you!

Hi,
All the dv7 series have 2 HDD bays - see Page 47 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Your notebook is listed as coming with 1Tb of storage, so it may be wise to check you don't already have 2 x 500Gb HDDs
If you have a single 1Tb HDD installed, you may well need to but a caddy and cable for the second drive.

David PK,
Thank you very much! The dv7-7047cl has one HDD, unless the spec page is wrong.
BIOS QUESTION - once the new drive is in, will the dv7-7047cl's BIOS recognize the second HDD? Or do I need to do something special?
Thanks again!
Mike

Hi Mike,
You're welcome ![]()
There should be no problem with the Bios recognising the 2nd HDD, however it may not show up in Windows ( under Start Menu, Computer ) until the drive has been formatted.
You can format the second HDD as follows.
Hold down the Windows Key and press R. Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter. Click Disk Management in the left pane and let the drives load up. Right click on your new HDD and select Format to start the Wizard. Windows 7 will assign a Volume Label so if your happy with this, just leave the default one. File system is normally NTFS. Allocation Unit Size should be left as the default value. Select the option to perform a Quick Format if it is not already selected. Leave any other settings as default and click Ok and Ok again to start the process.
When this has completed, your new HDD should now appear when you look under Computer.
Regards,
DP-K

Thanks again, David!
For anyone else's benefit, the extra components (secondary HD connector cable, screws, bracket) are (as of 8/10/2012) in the HP Parts Store here .
The manual page 49 (57 of 124) references the Hard Drive Hardware Kit as spare part number 681976-001. Cost is currently $45
Now, I just need to see if Sam's Club has any dv7-7047cl left in stock!
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,
You're welcome and glad it helped ![]()
The link for the kit is Here. However, HP have been changing a lot of links lately, so I'm not sure how long this will be valid!!
Best regards,
DP-K
