My wife's HP laptop runs way too hot. It has for a long time. We alleviated it somewhat by getting an external laptop fan platform. Unfortunately, the USB cable that powers the fans from the laptop broke, so now it is just a platform. It gets so hot that it burns. I should not have put up with this for so long, but I can't let this go on any longer.
Has there been a recall for this laptop?
I'm concerned that the battery will catch fire or that my wife will suffer a serious burn.
Please help.
Regards,
Danny

I am also having problems relating to the quality of materials used in these computers. Here is my thread on the HP support forums:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.
On my thread there are links to various other webites and other threads that have similar problems.
I would suggest that if you have a problem with your computer, file a complaint with either the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, or any other regulatory agency. I have filed complaints with both after spending hours on the phone with HP (tech support, customer service, and Executive Customer Relations). All of which has ended in HP denying the repair of my computers defective hardware. Please, make yourself heard. The more people that do, the more likely it is that something will happen to help the 100's of people that are victims of this issue.

Mine has been getting hotter and hotter, despite my using other devices to try to cool it off. And, consistent with everyone else's accounts, it occurred right after my extended warranty expired. How very convenient ... The heat is so intense, it actually causes my legs to get minor burns when I keep it on my lap for any amount of time and whatever I put it on gets searing hot, and from what I understand from others' reports, it sounds as though it will only get more intense.
This is clearly a serious hazard to users and should not be something that HP is putting on the consumer as a "Warranty" issue - it is a risk that could cause injury to person or property. I'm very, very dismayed to see the accounts of others who have attempted to resolve this unsuccessfully through customer service, and I'm hoping that it is only a casualty of their poor business decision to outsource the calls to contractors overseas who are not savy enough to understand {Content Removed: no legal discussion permitted} for putting customers at such an unreasonable risk after being put on constructive notice of such risk (I mean, after all, it *IT* being posted all over their own site!).
I hope that someone with a business or law degree at HP HQ, or one of their major stockholders, does read this post and realize the liability of this willful negligence they are demonstrating to the constructive or actual knowledge that they are receiving from the malfunctioning products they are selling ... they are risking the health and welfare of their customers, and all I can say is God help them if I get an injury, {Content Removed: no legal discussion permitted}... in any event, it is just going to cost HP more in bad press and money to clean this up than to just deal with it, so I'm not really sure why they are dropping the ball on this issue.
I do plan to pursue matter with the Better Business Bureau, and I recommend each person who has this problem do the same ... and I recommend that you all get the word out to others who may also be having this problem via social media about this defective product. I say this because I know that in the NYC metro area, at least, there may be some interest in making an investigative report on HP's corporate malfeasance - imagine that children in households with this HP projects are at risk for serious burns or other disfigurements ... because of the incredible heat coming off of the very product I'm typing this on! You have to know that will cost more than just a simple recall, or at least decent customer service to offer to replace the product where people are complaining about it rather than making them have to pay on their own, right?
To the folks at HP - I know that you use a cost-benefit analysis to determine whether the cost of property and human injury or loss is sufficiently high to outweigh the cost of defending yourself against actions. You may wish to rethink that kind of strategy...
Signed,
A concerned consumer and citizen
