Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

I think it's a faulty part. My DV2070 is just 6 months old, and the leftbutton is not 'clickin' anymore. But it still works. Sometimes it misses a click.

The button is also 'lower' than the right one which 'clicks' normal.

I think HP used a cheap-ass part for this.

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

I finally had to mail mine back for repair. The sheet sent back with it said they replaced the system board. Must be a hardware glitch this is so common. Once I received the box and label from HP to send it in, it only took about a week from the time I handed it to Fed Ex to the time they handed it back. It was a pain but it's working!

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

Same prob here with pavilion dm1 and ALPS touchpad.

This is weird, because:

-  Touchpad works ok with no dropouts, no problems, jumpy movements out of the box.

For exactly 1 hour under preinstalled windows7...

-  At some moment it stopped working correctly.

Tapping and (for me) right mouse button wont work at all. All worked before.

-  No settings changed, no nothing.

Only thing is: i tried pluggin' a usb mouse, this worked, so i unplugged.

-  Checked settings, drivers, tried drivers - no change.

Even with no driver at all, windows7 makes the pad a kind of standard mouse - same behaviour.

So is this some hardware failure?

NO

-  Installed Ubuntu netbook remix.

Guess what. Tapping works fine ! Right mouse button does not !

Messin with settings and drivers here...no effort.

So what?

One more:

- Tryin system restore to shipping status...device needs some looong time. At some point while installing there is some basic window system, and ....the tapping works even there!

So that pad actually works?!?!

thx for any further info on that

chris

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

Hmm, not sure what your current functionality status is (if it's working 100 percent all the time or not), but for me sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling drivers restored tap for me, sometimes not. System restore did nothing. Installing all added programs did nothing. After making myself crazy stubbornly looking for a software answer, I finally gave in to HP support's final answer: try to do a complete system recovery (not system restore; this is the doomsday option) -- day one status -- and when that didn't work sent it in. If yours is fairly new and limited tweaks, bite the bullet, back up your stuff with Windows 7 backup and let them have a go at it if it's under warranty. It really only takes a week. I wish I had done it when the problem first appeared, before I had done a lot of tweaking. The backup doesn't restore lots of little settings but nothing major -- it does back up major data , but not you'll have to reinstall added programs and their data. So, back up your iTunes, Quicken or any outside money software and the like manually, too, just in case. I lost some Outlook data by not doing that. I backed up my docs and pics manually, too, just in case. Better safe than lost! Good luck.

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

Is there a fix to this yet?  i have a dv4, and when i woke up today had the same problem everyone is reporting here....  tap clicking and left button both stopped working..  i wentt through a slew of things to fix the problem.  (uninstalled hardware and driver and restoring, (not full system restore) ).   even played with settings...  i switched the left and right click commands around so now my right button does what the left button use to do,   and it works fine,  but tapping still does not, and the shortcut menu (right button now) still doesn't work,   i enabled tap zones and put it on the top left corner.  anyways. this is annoying.  i never ues the buttons anyways, i always used to tap pad.   please, someone find a fix. or hp.   i heard someone shipped this off and had their computer back in a week.  i do not want to be without a computer for a week, because i run an online business.  if i have to, i have to, but PLEASE. what's going on here? i do not want to do a complete system recovery either, i will lose way to many paid programs.

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

Well I have HP Touchsmart and seem to have the same HP disease. The left mouse button does not work, so I switched right to left to function on life support. Anyone actually find a home fix on this yet?

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

Have a HP Pavilion dv5-100 entertainment notebook. My left bottom has for some time seems like it doesn't work. Noticed today that the key top now pivots, big time, left or right of center, i.e.. like a see-saw. 1.5 mm on the left, when key is at rest. This is a fairly new machine. It has never felt right.  Anyone know how to remove the key top so I can check under it? If you  push on the left or right, you can get  a click, but, the key binds coming up, sometimes you don't get a click because of the binding.. If you are real careful you can push it it the center and get a clean click. Problem that key top is 40 mm long, so hitting the center is a pain. Just a matter of time before it stops working totally.

Last HP I will ever get. I have never had a problem like this before and I used most of my laptops over 10 years before throwing them out.  Have used the with just a live-cd in them from travel, so, not out anything if stolen. Just move linux on them when Microsoft bloats their OS so newer releases will not run. This one isn't going to make it pass 3 years.

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

I've had the same symptom for about 6 months and so far even though the left touchpad key rocks back and forth like yours at least it still works.    Why can't HP come up with a fix procedure for this??   There are plenty of places to get replacement keyboards/keys, but can't find anyone selling replace touchpad keys or procedures to fix this problem.  Its got to be just a loose hinge or spring or something...

Re: Touch Pad and left click not working

I am facing the same problem with my hp dv4-1041tx. Its out of warranty as its two years old. It was all fine until today morning, when all of a sudden the touchpad clicker and the left button stopped working. I found this discussion page and thought if anyone could help on a home fix? like is it possible to fix this problem myself? Is this a hardware or a driver problem? If I can't do it at home, how much would it cost to do it with HP? Wow.. so many questions!! it will be great if someone could answer some of these!! At present I have changed the right button to do the clicking work and the scrollbar is working fine.
