Touchpad Pointer Freezes Pavilion dm4-2070us [ Edited ]

Is anyone else having a problem with their touchpad pointer randomly freezing? This doesn't happen a lot of the time, but it is annoying when it does. When it happens to me, it is usually when I am using the Windows Explorer, while moving or deleting files. But, it is not limited to this scenario. Restarting the laptop fixes it, as well as turning on a wireless mouse. This issue has existed since I first used the computer.

I am assuming you must be talking about  HP Pavilion dm4-2070us because I am unable to locate/identify the Notebook model which you are using

Yes, I apologize for the mistake. You are correct, it is HP Pavilion dm4-2070us. I don't know where I got the other number from!

Perform a hard reset on the Notebook. To perform a hard reset, follow the steps below.

• Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC.
• Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
• Disconnect any external devices or peripherals connected to the notebook. Press and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds

After this ,Turn ON the Notebook and install latest BIOS from here and touchpad drivers from here

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the download of the BIOS update file when I used the link that you provided. I don't know how it could have happened, but the file did not work and seemed to be corrupted. I re-downloaded the file from the HP Support & Drivers webpage, which ran correctly and updated the BIOS successfully. So far, after about 12 hours of use, I have not experienced any occurrences of the Touchpad pointer freezing on the screen. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, though!

I had this problem for weeks until I noticed that little square at the top left of the touchpad.  I was accidentally touching it, which disables the cursor.  Just touch it again to recover.

My problem was different. On my model, pressing on the upper left-hand  corner turns the touchpad on and off. On my machine, the cursor would just stop moving, no matter where I moved or pressed my finger.  HP has issued some updates, one of them was for the touchpad. After following the suggestion above from HP, I no longer experience the problem. Thank you for your suggestion, though.

i would love to do that but when i power back up my cursor is still frozen in the middle of the screen. the only thing i can do with this is log on with finger print but thats it. can u help me?

I suggest using a mouse to navigate the cursor while updating the touchpad software. Any type of mouse will work, and most people have at least one on hand. I'm sure you will be able to find someone that you know who has one if you do not. Hope this suggestion will help.

You mention a square on the pad. I do not have one on mine.
