USB 3 Ports not working DV6 6140-US

I have a DV6 6140US that I am having usb issues with. My two right ports work properly but my two left ports do not work. I've reinstalled windows on a clean format to try to fix it with no luck. HP's solutions include doing that again (no) and reinstalling the USB 3.0 drivers (first thing I did to try to fix it and I’ve tried it repeatedly). They also had me uninstall all USB devices via device manager and reboot (didn't fix the problem).

The ports themselves are not dead. I have a total of three unknown devices in windows, an SM Bus Controller and two Universal Serial Bus Controller(s). I’ve uninstalled these three devices and restarted but they still show as unknown. I have also tried to have windows automatically update the drivers, but windows cannot find drivers for the devices. I’m at a lost if someone can give me some good advice. 

It has a AMD A8 APU for info.

Those should be fixed with a chipset driver, which is packaged in the HP graphics driver. Did you install that yet? Don‘t do express install, but rather the custom install and check everything.

I did, my "fresh" install isn't very fresh, did it a few months ago. I'll reinstall it to see if it makes a difference

I found that that model does have a seperate chipset driver for USB 3.0. I‘d recommend installing that first and if it doesn‘t fix it then do the full install of the graphics driver. Good luck.

The chipset drivers where not working, however I never did install the ATI drivers. I went with the drivers found on windows update since they were more up-to-date not knowing the HP ones included more drivers that just the graphics drivers. After installing the ATI drivers both ports work! Thank you.

I've got similar problem with my new dv6-6140ew. But the difference in my case is that left two SS USB ports should be working as an USB 3.0 ports, and they are not When I connect an USB 3.0 pendrive to any of that ports I'm getting an info that this device may work faster when I'll connect it to SS USB 3.0 ports... I've tried to reinstal USB 3.0 Renesas driver, but that doesn't solve a problem. Any ideas about that? That is a new "out of the box" laptop...
