USB Keyboard - Insert key not working

I've an HP KU-9963 usb keyboard plugged into a Dell laptop running Windows XP (all the latest updates), where all keys appear to function ok except for the Insert keys. Pressing either Insert key doesn't cause the LED to light and I get no insert action.

Has anyone ever experienced this with a usb keyboard? Could Microsoft's driver possibly be the culprit?

Re: USB Keyboard - Insert key not working

Sorry...I started this thread prematurely. It turns out that my usb keyboard is ok. It's Microsoft Word 2007 Enterprise and Notepad that appear to have the problem. The Insert key works just fine within the Command window and within Wordpad.

Re: USB Keyboard - Insert key not working

Please don't close this thread as I have similar problems and would like to know how to solve them.  I am using a KU 0316 keyboard with WinXP.

For Word 2007 I have to turn on the status bar and use the mouse to select Insert vs Overtype.

for Notepad I have no choice I am "stuck" (no pun intended) with Insert mode.

let me know!  thank you

Thanks for describing the problem. Yes, my HP Wireless Multimedia Keyboard with Windows 7 behaves exactly the same way. The Insert key works in Wordpad but not in Notepad nor in Word 2007. So it is a software problem not a mechanical malfunction. Now I have to figure out what the software fix is. If I learn anything, I will let you know.

Re: USB Keyboard - Insert key not working

Ok, here is the solution I got from HP support. I checked it out in Word and it works:

 If you click the Office Button – click on Word Options – then click on Advanced. Under the Section for Editing options. There is a place to select use the Insert key to control overwright mode.

Thanks. this works. after, like two years, i finally got it working! it only seems to work on the notepad or docs but i'll take it.

but it was a little unclear; (oh it works in the calendar too)

the office button (for idiots like me) is the circle with the red, blue, yellow, green squares in the corner.

but you can press ALT+f to open that, then 'i' to open Word Options, then 'a' for Advanced settings, then ALT + v for Overtype mode, then space bar to have overtype be controlled by the INSERT button.

after that, it should be as easy as hitting the INSERT button to get it to insert.
