USB port sluggish

[ Edited ]

PH G32 Notebook PC XH066UA#ABA SN: [Personal Information Removed] WIN 7 Home Premium

Device manager says that USB ports are Enhanced. However, clearly they run at 1.0 speed rather than 2.0. Where can I find a solution? I have used all the suggestions offered by Self-Help. I have replied and described exactly how none of them solve my problem. Nowhere have I found an option for an out of warranty notebook that has used the Tune Up and other features regularly and where nothing except my manual comparison of the same devices on different machines confirms that problem with the USB port.

Re: USB port sluggish

It is not helpful to have Mr. FixIt tell me that it has detected my problem and then all it can do is send me to the HP Help Website. I have tried every suggestion offered by the Website (including updating the drivers, and reinstalling the devices) and none of them make a difference.

Re: USB port sluggish

I can not guess the result of each test.

Go to:

Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Universal serial Bus controllers

Uninstall there USB devices. Restart the system and check the result.

Re: USB port sluggish

I complied with the suggestions on the HP "Help and Support" website several times (including updating drivers and uninstalling hubs). Nothing changed as a consequence. I have been asking for Other options than the conventional offerings on Help and Support. I cannot believe I am the only one to have such a problem with a HP G3200 series notebook. The reason I included my serial number was because I assumed it was necessary to identify the source of the defective hardware installed on my notebook. I also assumed that I made it clear that the "boiler plate" fixes were very unlikely to help.

Do not assume anything if you are looking for help. Even if you have the HP idenetification I can not assume how great knowledge you have, because many times on our forum we have seen that this knowlege is not as great as it should for guys with this sticker.

You post too much unnecessary information and not enough specifics. Think about it for even just a second. I am not attacking you. I would like to emphasize that this isn't and wasn't my intention.

I'm not sure what you mean by this words:"  a problem with a HP G3200 series notebook", cause product number indicates the you have HP G62-340US Notebook PC. Is that correct or not?

I also have not ever seen those steps which I gave you in the HP "Help and Support", so please show me those instructions there.

The next step for me would be updating the graphics driver. Reason is simple. Inside this package is the chipset driver.

Uninstall the ATI/AMD graphic driver first. Check the link below (it's not standard process):

How to uninstall ATI / AMD graphic card drivers from a Microsoft Windows 7.

Download and install the AMD driver (ver 12.4) from here if you use 64 bit W7 system.

Download and install the AMD driver (ver 12.4) from here if you use 32 bit W7 system.

Restart the system and check the result.

Note:

The above graphics drivers are not available on the HP "Help and Support" website.

Re: USB port sluggish

Thank you for the suggestion. My problem is that the only way I know to check the speed of my USB ports is to attach an external HD to my notbook pc while simultaneously doing the same on my desktop pc and running the same program operation on both. To say the least, that is cumbersome.

So "check the results" will only happen the next time I clone the disks on my two machines for backup. I have recently done that several times and no matter what combination of external HD I use, the USB port on my notebook runs considerably slower (far less than half the speed).

If you know a more convenient way to check USB port speed, please inform me. Thanks for your help. I shall try the graphics card uninstall.

This AMD driver which I suggested should also provide much better GPU performance.

Download and install the PC Wizard 2012 or use the no installation which I personally prefer.

When you will run this app left-click the IO Ports icon which is on the apper left side in the app (pointed on the below screenshot by the yellow arrow).

Connect to the USB port flash drive. Now find this flash drive by clicking every Port installed (marked by me with the blue rectangle) and using the scroll button which is in the bottom right part of this app.

When you will find it check the detected USB version and by checking the Low Speed parameter you will know is it working at low speed or not (marked by me with the red rectangle). If the status is no then everything is ok. If the status is yes then it is working not a fast as it should.

Re: USB port sluggish

OK. I have followed the instructions for the uninstall of AMD/ATI with Drive Sweeper. It would have been helpful to know in advance that DS is an aftermarket program that in my case needed to be downloaded and installed before beginning the procedures. (It comes with a fistful of add-ons that one needs to dodge.)

In addition, I have not needed to use Safe Mode since WIN requires a password when using Homegroup. I shall have to ask them the proper steps. Nevertheless, in standard mode I used DS as you recommend.

So, the next time I clone my disks simultaneously (after the hours this has taken, that will be a week away) I shall see whether it makes a difference. I shall let you know. Thanks for your help.

Re: USB port sluggish

I was unaware of PC Wizard as a diagnostic tool. It offers so much, I cannot tell if or when I will learn to put it to full use. However, it now shows me where my 2.0 USB ports are and what device is connected to them. That deserves Kudos galore.

And thank you for the AMD download. It just may be that evening is approaching, so my visuals look brighter, or it may be because the new AMD download has succeeded.

This has been the best support experience I have had in some time. What a pleasure to depend on someone who knows what he is doing. While I hope that it will not be necessary to return soon, I am glad to know that you are available for support. I write that with a big smile on my face.
