Upgrade wireless radio card to include Bluetooth - DV4-2170US [ Edited ]

HI guys!

I bought the DV4-2170US without checking it had Bluetooth - didn't think you could buy a laptop without bluetooth these days!

I know I can use a USB Bluetooth adapter and have one and it works but I'm not keen on having something always plugged in there. 

I'm keen to upgrade the wireless module to one that includes Bluetooth but have not had any luck with either calling HP or emailing them.

Does anyone knows what the part number/code will work with my DV4 2170US ?

Device Manger has Atheros AR9285 as installed. Definitely no Bluetooth.

Unfortunately there are no WLAN cards with Bluetooth for your model.

You can only purcahase one of the cards listed with the HP part number or the notebook will not boot until the unsupported WLAN card is removed.

You can upgrade your card to a dual band wireless N card, but that is all (Atheros AR5009 802.11a/b/g/n).

I wonder if anyone here has experimented with another cards,  I see two options of cards that I can try.

Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi and 2070 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo Adapter

Part number: 600370-001

Ralink RT3090BC4 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo Adapter:

Part number: 602992-001

The only option would be to order both and see if one works, I guess?

My USB Bluetooth adapter works perfectly,but wanted to free one USB port.

This is a neat laptop maybe I can take one or two years out of it.

The only way to install a card not listed in your manual is to modify the BIOS to not lock out unsupported cards.

I do not know how to do that.

I know what you are talking about, I used to do it on IBM's all the time.

That's an excellent solution, so I can safely say that if it is not on the service manual it is blacklisted.

I hope someone has messed with this and can give me some direction, next laptop I get will make sure comes with the latest TB adapter.

That is correct.

Only the cards with the HP part #'s listed in the service manual will work unless a BIOS update (read the release notes on all BIOS updates) adds support for newer cards not listed in the manual.
