Upgrading Memory Past the Maximum

Hi,

I've got a Compaq Presario CQ60-420SA running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.

I'm going to be clean installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit soon, and I was wondering if I would be able to put in 8GB of memory into my computer.

I understand that currently on the HP website it states this laptop cannot accept more than 4GB of memory, but is that to do with the fact that it is being shipped with a 32-Bit operating system which can only address 3.3GB? Or is it due to an actual hardware limitation of the laptop/ motherboard.

From this laptop's underside, I am able to access both memory bays, and therefore would be able to replace both of the current existing modules with identical 4GB modules...

Will I be able to do this successfully, would it work?

Has anyone else tried this, as I'm not too keen on buying very expensive RAM, in order for it not to work.

Thanks,

Louis
