The validity fingerpring sensor in my DV6-6190 stopped working. I have tried all un-install /re-install of the older ddrivers to the latest drivers, removed and re-installed HP simplepass 2011, but this hardware does not get detected.
The laptop is under warranty and was sent back to HP for repair. The only thing they did was factory reset, after which it worked for about 2 months and again stopped working.
What surprises me is that window does not detect this hardware at all. Is it a hardware problem or software problem?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks

If it does not show up in device manager it is likely a hardware issue. Try resetting the BIOS to default settings (F10 as you power up). If a factory restore worked once before it might be worth a try to do another one although I do not see how it could make a difference if the hardware is not apparent in DM.

Thanks for a quick response.
So far I have always seen that if a hardware is present in the computer and has a problem, it will show up with an exclamation mark in the DM. If it does not show up at all, then the hardware is not working. It could be that the the sensor hardware is defective and is working intermittently.
HP service is like a black box. They don't tell you what was done on the laptop. I will do a factory restore once more and if it still does not work, I will send it back for repair again.
It is a pain to send it for repair as I loose it for week to 10 days.
