Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

[ Edited ]

I have a HP Pavilion dv7t-6000 CTO Entertainment that I bought just under a year ago, May of last year, and I have a small tiny flaw on my screen. I did not get the 1920x1080 screen when I placed my order, so I have the one right under it, 1600 x 900.

First off, here is the flaw...

I was told by HP that this isn't covered under my warranty since it's likely accidental, and it'll be around $350 to repair. I figure I may as well get a new, updated, screen and try it myself. HP told me what I need is the 7.3-inch High Definition Bright View LED SVA LVDS - Raw panel, model number 641629-001.

Is that one glossy or antiglare? Which one would be best? If I updated to that screen, would the cable on it be compatible with my laptop or would I need an extra cable? I want the full HD 1920x1080 screen that will go with my laptop.

Ok, so with all of that, what is the best way to get that screen? It looks fairly simple to do myself, so that's no problem. Thanks guys!

Re: Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

Hi,

You've got one of 2 choices (depending on the CPU of your machine)

Display panel:

  • 17.3-in, AntiGlare, FHD, LED, display panel for use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor part # 656297-001
  • 17.3-in, BrightView, HD+, LED, LVDS display panel for use with all computer models part # 641629-001

The first one is a full 1920 x 1080 screen.

You can order from the following link:

Regards.

Personally I would let well enough alone if that is the only flaw. Also it is best to replace the display panel with an exact duplicate. Usually the motherboard is different if you have the higher res screen and they are not compatible. In other words, your motherboard/video card is different than a laptop with the high res screen, probably. The cable will fit...LED is LED, but the screen will look funky if they are not compatible. So really this is not probably your opportunity to upgrade the screen. Here is your exact replacement on amazon.com at $66 which is a very good deal:

http://www.amazon.com/HP-641629-001-Laptop-Screen-1600x900/dp/B005NBNTJU

Apparently they will not say whether you get glossy or matte, but at that price who cares?.

Here is the description of the panel with the full HD resolution:

17.3-in, AntiGlare, FHD, LED, display panel for use only with computer models equipped
with an Intel processor
656297-001

http://www.screentekinc.com/HP-656297-001.shtml

They do not give the price, you have to call. It might work but can't guarantee. Partsurfer is not giving a price for either part but based on past experience, somewhere over $200 is a good guess.

Re: Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

I have been told by HP reps that the system I have would allow for an updated, full 1920x1080 HD screen. I would have got it at the time of purchase, but at the time of my order they didn't offer that res of screen for my system.

I was also just told by the same rep in chat that the graphics card determines your max resolution, and not the screen itself. I told them I have a 1gb gddr5 radeon hd 6770m and they said that no matter what screen I buy, I can't get 1920x1080 period. Is that even remotely true?

Re: Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

Hi,

As mentioned above, full HDD screen is for Intel processor only - Please don't ask me why, that's HP's specs. Nothing to do with the video card in this case.

Re: Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

This is why I said just stick with the same screen, just because of the hassle and uncertainty. But, the full HD says it is compatible with Intel processor and you have an Intel processor. It is the video card which determines compatibility but for simplicity HP just says Intel processor only because they know what graphics card they packaged with the Intel processor. Most people know if they have Intel or AMD but likely don't know what graphics chip they have.  I would say it is 90% likely if you buy the full HD screen and connect it, you will get full HD resolution, but the only way to know for sure is to try it for the obvious reason that HP does not support hardware upgrades and the information you get from them is often conflicting and always a little suspect. Good luck and if you do try it post back here with the results for the good of the public.

Re: Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

What is it that does not apply to you? You have an Intel processor; therefore odds are good the full HD screen will work.

Re: Where can I find a replacement screen for my HP Pavilion dv7t-6000?

I'm sorry, I was replying to what was said before you last post about how you needed an Intell.

Is there a link to where I can buy that full 1920x1080 screen or a model number or something to go by?
