Why was my hard drive removed at some time and replaced with a generic Hard drive?

I bought my computer new.  It was initially an IDE/Disk ST3500630AS.  It reads on my system profile on the HP diagnostics site as havein been removed and replaced with an ST3500630AS.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that Intel cannot detect any Intel products on my computer so I can't repair my non-existent Intel Viiv software that Hp says I have (Intel says it isn't a valid product), not to mention all of the Intel items Hp says are on my computer? None of the Intel services that are listed on my computer are working.

My computer has never been to a repair shop.  Wouldn't that have to happen to remove a Hard Drive?  Would an IDE/Disk ST3500630AS be better than a generic ST3500630AS?

Why would my Smart extended self test fail?
