Hello everyone!
First off:
Product name and number: HPdv6000
Operating system: Vista
Error message: Blue screen
Changes to system before issue occurred: No.
In December of 2009, my laptop abruptly powered off. It has not been animate ever since.
Here is what happens. When I try to power the laptop on, it will, but only for three seconds. The directory buttons will illuminate blue. Proceeding this it will power off. Zip and the blue retreats. Nothing.
I'll add a couple details that might or might not be useful in this amateur diagnosis/speculation.
1. The laptop will power on with the battery removed and power cord connected.
2. The laptop will power on with the power cord connected and battery inserted only if the batter is removed and then reinserted.
3. The charge indicator light does not illuminate in either instance.
I have a hunch that it is a motherboard malfunction (Or possibly a virus). I, personally, think that I have fried the motherboard. Typically, I placed the laptop on my lap. Certainly a huge "don't." I eventually bought a laptop stand. I was too late.
I'd much appreciate any thoughts on what the culprit might be that is hindering my laptop inoperable. On another note, HP recalled this particular laptop in 2009 (I think) because of motherboard failure. Unfortunately, I located my receipt a day late.
Thank you!

please post your results.
If you can enter BIOS, do a hard disk diagnostic test.

I removed the hard disk and attempted to power on.
The laptop did the same as it always does. It powers on for a few seconds, the screen remains black and the fan turns on. Then the fan powers off, as do the blue lights, and there's nothing.

That usually means a corrupted BIOS or a chipset issue. The only other solutions are hardcore stuff and system board replacement.
The BIOS chip can be replaced but it is not an easy task nor is reflashing the chipset.

Hi there.
My experience with this sort of issue. (with Compaq and Elite range laptops)
You can try reset the BIOS. Remove the CMOS battery, Battery and RAM modules.
Then leave the laptop for +-10min.
Then try boot the laptop up without the CMOS battery installed.
If it still does not boot?
Unfortunately it seems, your motherboard is faulty.
