Wireless Button Stays Amber in Windows 7

Hi all, I've got a Compaq CQ60-105EI and have recently installed Windows 7 on it.

Everything on it works ok and I've installed all the latest drivers and software but I've got a problem with the Wireless Button staying on the colour amber the whole time

I've even tried installing the QuickButtons and Wireless Assistant for Windows Vista in compatibility mode and without and it still stays amber.

Hopefully there is a fix as I know there has to be a trigger to turn it on before the boot up like in Vista.

I don't know much about Windows 7, but can you see the wifi device in the device manager?

Re: Wireless Button Stays Amber in Windows 7

DJNgoma,

If you select the wifi off does the LED still stay amber?  If it does, as I believe you already figured, there is most likely something lacking in the driver.  Most likely you will have to wait for a newer dirver that addresses the issue.

Besides the LED issue, how do you like Windows 7?

Regards,

Eric D

Re: Wireless Button Stays Amber in Windows 7

I have the same issue except that my wireless does not work until I get the LED to turn blue. To do so, I have to press the button not once, but twice. It's as if it defaults to on (but fails) and I have to turn it off, and then back on (at which point it changes color and works).

I have a CQ50-104ca and the final version of Win7 RTM. Latest drivers. I have tried 4 or 5 other drivers. I have even tried a better wifi card (300mbps atheros). Same issue. Seems to be something with Win7 specifically. I have the latest BIOS updates as well (they mention something about adding support for the next generation of Windows).

Re: Wireless Button Stays Amber in Windows 7

Funny thing is that Windows 7 build 7100 (RC) has solved the problem. Will bump up to the RTM (build 7600) when the RC is about expire.

Re: Wireless Button Stays Amber in Windows 7

DJNgoma,

The Windows 7 driver for CQ-60 models is here:  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45524.exe

Info about the file is here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45524.html

Let us know if that helps.
